Mrs. Nicol was born Catherine Elizabeth Hausman on April 20th, 1870 at Cumberland, Maryland, daughter of Annie Wilye Reed Martin and Henry Hausman. She grew to womanhood living with her parents and was united in marriage to John Nicol of Lonaconing, Maryland October 31, 1891. To this union were born ten children, Edith, Mrs. William A. Hall, Nashua, Iowa; Annie, Mrs. Robert W. Conway, Noel, Missouri; Marion, Mrs. Bennett J. Smith, Kenyon; Verna, Mrs. Lee Larick, Austin; Mary Ellen, Mrs. William F. Vogelpohl, Watkins; Melvin Nicol, Eagle Grove, Iowa; James Nicol, Eden Valley; Ruth, Mrs. Ralph Driver, Manannah. Four sisters, Mrs., Sim Hutcheson and Mrs. Janet Hendra of Lonaconing, Maryland; Mrs. James Yates and Mrs. Ella McIntyre of Morgantown, W. Va., 27 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Two daughters, Catherine and Clara Isabelle died in infancy. The family moved to Eden Valley from Lonaconing, Maryland in 1909. They lived on the farm in Manannah township and in 1941 celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. Nicol passed away May 2, 1942 and since that time Mrs. Nicol made her home with her children. Those attending the funeral from a distance were Mrs. William A. Hall, Nashua, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Conway and Evelyn, Noel, Mo., Mrs. Bennett J. Smith, Kenyon, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Larich, Austin, Mr. and Mrs. William Vogelpohl and family, Watkins, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Nicol and daughters, Eagle Grove, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. James Conway and son, Noel, Mo., Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Larich and daughters of Grand Forks, N. D., Mrs. William Blomker, Mrs. Christ Blomker of Belgrade and a host of relatives and friends.
