Interment in St. Mary’s cemetery. “Granny” Rowan was perhaps the oldest resident of the State of Maryland at the time of her death, being over 106 years old. She was born in County Mayo, Ireland in 1799, and removed to England in 1848, and from there to Eckhart mines in 1871, from there to Midland and later to Lonaconing, where she resided at the time of her death. “Granny” Rowan lived in three centuries, born in the 18th century, lived through the 19th and died in the 20th century. The mental activities of the deceased were very remarkable until a few weeks before her death, and she was free from any bodily disease except inroads made on her vitality by the long years of her life. The deceases had been a widow since 1863. There are five grown children left, the youngest will be sixty years old next July. They are Daniel Rowan, Patrick Rowan, Thomas Rowan, and Bridget Calligan of Pittsburg (the fifth child is not listed). Besides these there are 37 grandchildren; 77 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren representing five generations. The pallbearers were all grandchildren of the deceased, and were: Michael T. Rowan, James Rowan, John Berkenbaugh, Joseph Rowan, of Patrick; Joseph Rowan, of Thomas; Leo Rowan, Patrick Rowan, Joseph Berkenbaugh. Flowerbearers, William Jones, John Rowan, of Dan; John Rowan, of Patrick, also grandchildren.
