The Herald, Piedmont, West Virginia, 15 Nov 1907: 
"Mr. James Sloan died at his home near Burlington, November 
6, 1907, in his 97th year.  Mr. Sloan was one of the oldest 
persons in Mineral county, and was highly respected.  He 
leaves one son, Mr. John Sloan, of Burlington, and four 
daughters, Mrs. Mary Wright and Misses Sadie and Magdalene 
Sloan, of Burlington, and Mrs. Hannah Kuykendall, of the 
South Branch."
