A retired coal miner and life-long resident of Lonaconing, he was a son of the late James and Margaret (Holmes) Sloan. He was a member of the United Mine Workers, Junior Order and Knights of Pythias. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Margaret E. (Donald) Sloan; two sons, Melvin Sloan, Lonaconing, and Charles Sloan, Klondyke; a daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Poland, Lonaconing; two sisters, Mrs. Georgeana Fisher, Cumberland, and Mrs. Margaret Abbott, Bowling Green, Cumberland; ten grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
