The News, Frederick, Maryland   Wednesday, June 23, 1948
Mrs. Bessie Spalding, formerly a resident of Point of Rocks for many years and 
more recently in Washington, died at her home there on Monday evening at the 
age of 70 years.  She is survived by four children by a former marriage, who 
are James A. Arnold, Leroy Hightman, and Mrs. Lorna Hammond, all of 
Washington;  two brothers, Simmon Coates and Harry Coates of Washington; two 
sisters, Mrs. Mamie Lewis, Cumberland, and Mollie Gage, of Somerset, 
Pennsylvania.
   Funeral services will be conducted in the Point of Rocks Methodist church 
on Thursday morning at 11 o'clock.  Interment will be made in the Point of 
Rocks cemetery.
