"Evening Times" Cumberland, Maryland, 12 Nov 1943: "
Midland-John J. Stakem, 54, died last night at his home on Koontz Ave., 
of pneumonia. He had worked in the mines and later was agent for the 
Cumberland Brewing Co. He then engaged in the mercantile business, 
retiring when his health failed. Mr. Stakem is survived by his widow, 
and four children: Margaret, Thomas, Pauline and John Stakem. He was a 
brother of Patrick J. Stakem, Mary and Margaret Stakem, Ocean, Md., 
and Thomas Stakem, Stoyestown, Pa., and Mrs. M. J. Creegan, Midland. He 
was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church from which the funeral 
will take place. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery, Frostburg."
