"Father Ternent" was the son of James and Elizabeth Scott Ternent, and was born in the county of Durham, Jamesley, England July 14, 1822. He came to this country August 1, 1850 and in 1853 removed to Vale Summitt, where he was converted June 18, and two days later united with the Methodist Episcopal Church. He removed to Lonaconing in January 1855 and immediately identified himself with the Methodist Church of this place and has been a faithful member ever since. Mr. Ternent was appointed class leader in 1858 and held that position until his death. "Father Ternent" was a widower, his wife having died many years ago. He is survived by the following three children, all of whom are residents of this place: James P., Mrs. Jane Ann Johnson and Miss Hannah B. Ternent. Mr. Ternent was one of our oldest and most respected citizens and was a most active church worker. He will be buried in Oak Hill cemetery Saturday afternoon. Services will be held in the home at 1 o'clock, from thence proceed to the M. E. Church. The Spiers undertaking establishment has charge of the arrangements."
