Several children are orphaned by this sad event. Thomas Phillips, husband of the deceased, died in May last, after a long illness. Both were highly esteemed and the surviving members of the stricken family have the sympahy of all who know them. _____________________________________________ At his home near Barton, Dec 22, 1884, Mr James Thomas, in the 60th year of his age. Mr. T was a brother-in-law of the late George Jeffries, of this place. He resided in this county 31 years and was widely known as a good man. His wife and three grown children survive him--two daughters and a son. _____________________________________________ 21 Jan 1918, Cumberland Evening Times Mrs Ann Thomas, aged 87, wife of the late Phillip Thomas, died at 8.15 o'clock Saturday evening at the home of her daughter, Mrs Jane Schultz, Spring Street. The aged woman fell down stairs two months ago while attending the funeral of her nephew James Thomas, on Green Street and Thursday morning while wandering around in her bedroom fell out the window a concussion of the brain and a fractured leg resulting. Mrs Thomas was a native of Wales. The survivors are four daughters, Mrs Henry Spitnaus, Mt Savage, Mrs. Thomas G. Reese, Cleveland Ohio. Mrs. Margaret Everline, Corrigansville and Mrs. John Schultz, Frostburg. The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday from the Congregational Church, Rev. W. D. Reese of Zion Baptist will officiate. Burial will be in Allegany Cemetery. _____________________________________________ Nov 19, 1917 Cumberland Evening Times James William Thomas--aged 53, a well known resident, died at 4 o'clock yesterday at the family home on Green Street. Mr. Thomas was working Wednesday. He contracted pneumonia. Mr. Thomas was born in Mt. Savage and was a son of the late William Benjamin Thomas. Nine children survive, four daughters and five sons--Mrs Malcoln Laymon and Misses Elsie, Gladys and Eva at home and James Thomas of Youngstown, and Griffith, William, Frederick, John and Raymond at home. Mr. Thomas was a member of Frostburg Lodge; No.88 K of P and Freedom Council, No 123, Jr. Q,U,A,M. _____________________________________________ Dec 17, 1901 Frostburg Miner's Journal - Killed in the Mine David Thomas of this place, was instantly killed in the Hoffman mine Tuesday morning by a fall of coal. Had he lived he would have been 34 years old February, next. Mrs. Thomas and six small children are distressingly breaved by his death. Mr. Thomas was a good citizen, a member of the Knights of Malta and the Congregational Church. The funeral Thursday afternoon was largely attended. The pall-bearers were Messers.- John R. Davis, John J. Price. Conrad Yungerman, Christian Festerman, Isaac Reese, James N. Parker, Jabez J. Mealing, and William Thomas.
