THOMPSON MT. SAVAGE – James H. Thompson, 80, of Wellersburg Road, was dead on arrival yesterday at Frostburg Community Hospital. Born in Clarysville, he was a son of the late James H. and Lucy (Lafferty) Thompson. He was a member of Frostburg World War I Barracks, Henry Hart VFW Post 1411, Farrady Post 24, American Legion, Barrelville Outdoor Club and Soverignty (sic) Masonic Lodge 665, Akron. Surviving are his widow, Althea (Wilhelm) Thompson; two sisters, Mrs. Samuel LaPorta, Frostburg, and Mrs. Bertha Bowman, Cumberland, a brother, Lawrence Thompson, Baltimore. The body is at the Hafer-Sowers Funeral home in Frostburg where friends will be received today from 7 until 9 p.m. and tomorrow from 2 until 4 and 7 until 9 p.m. Additional Comments: Transcribed from newspapers images. In the 1900 US Federal Census, James was listed as James H. Burkett, and 5 years of age. It is possible he was the son of Lucy by a previous relationship. At that point, James and Lucy had only been married for a little over one year (15 Oct 1898). If anyone can shed light on this mystery, I would greatly appreciate learning the whole story.
