Twigg, practicing physician and surgeon at Flintstone for 55 years, died at his home this morning. He was 84, spending his entire life in the Flintstone section. Born at Twiggtown, a son of the late Oliver and Mary Ann (Stallings) Twigg, he had been ill six months. Dr. Twigg received much of his professional training at Bellevue Hospital, NY. He never ceased being what is rather a rarity today, the old time country doctor, in spirit, who however, combined modern methods. Dr. Twigg had the distinction of having as his home the old Flintstone Hotel, which has changed little since its erection in the staging days. Tourists who were entertained here were regaled with history of the old pike, of which Dr. Twigg had intimate knowledge. Among the famous characters traversing the highway who stopped at the Flintstone Hotel was Henry Clay. Dr. Twigg has been an active Democrat and for years ranked high among the active party men in the eastern end of the county. He is survived by one son, Dr. Allen G. Truman Twigg, this city; a daughter, Miss Lena B. Twigg, at home; and 5 grandchildren. His wife, the former Agnes ASH, died several years ago. Two grandsons, sons of Dr. and Mrs. Allen G. Twigg, are in the armed services: Allen W.., electric mechanic, first class, on submarine duty in the So. Pacific, and Sgt. Kenneth W. Twigg, US Marine paratrooper. Their daughter, Mrs. Helen V. Dickey, is engaged at an ordinance plant at Channel View, Texas while her husband, Howard H. Dickey, Jr. is in service overseas. The other grandchildren, children of Guy W. Twigg, who died about 4 years ago, are Miss Virginia Twigg, telephone operator at the Naval Traning Station at Bainbridge, MD and Miss Betty Twigg, at home in Flintstone. The body is at the Hafer Funeral Home where services will be held Wednesday, 2 pm. The Rev. Dr. Hixon T. Bowersox, pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, will officiate, assisted by the Rev. B.F. Hartman, pastor of Flintstone Methodist Church. Interment will be at Hillcrest Burial Park. The family requests that flowers be omitted. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Charles L. Owens, Dr. Arthur H. Hawkins, Dr. Wm. A. Gracie, Dr. Winter R. Frantz, Dr. John A. Watson, Dr. Leslie E. Daugherty, Dr. R.M. Moler, Dr. H.R. Williams, Dr. Samuel E. Enfield, Dr. W. Fred Williams, Dr. Thomas W. Koon, Frank Lee Carl and James C. Shriver. Active pallbearers were Brady and Russell Dolly, Lawrence Smith, Patrick Roland, Roscoe Ash and Lester Hinkle.
