P. (Percy)Whittaker, 72, of State .Avenue,died Friday in University Hospital, Morgantown, following a brief illness. Born in Tunnelton, he was a son of the late John W. and Mary J. (Hebb) Whittaker. Mr. Whittaker was the owner of an insurance agency which was affiliated with mutual life insurance companies and the Kemper Insurance Group. He attended Terra Alta High School and was a graduate of Mountain State Business College, Parkersburg. Mr. Whittaker was a member of Terra Alt Methodist Church, and a member of its official board; the Terra Alta Rotary Club, of which he was a director and past president; Terra Alta Post 154, American Legion; Terra Alta Lodge 1395, LOOM Moose, in which he was a life member and held a fellowship; Terra Alta Volunteer Fire Company,of which he was a charter,member and past assistant chief, and the Terra Alta Development Credit Corporation of which he was a director. Surviving are his widow, Mrs Nelle (Shaffer) Whittaker; two sons, Harrison P. Whittaker Jr. Canton, Ohio, and Richard S Whittaker, Franklin; two daughters, Mrs. Paul Vickers, St. Albans, and Mrs. Ison White, Terra Alta; two brothers, Paul H Whittaker, Kingwood, and John W. Whittaker, Fullerton, Calif, two sisters, Mrs. Marie -Storer Terra Alta, and Mrs. Betty Parsons, Ames, Iowa; 11 grandchildren and a great-grandchild. The body is at the Fike-Watson Funeral Home. Services will be conducted today at 2 p.m.. at Terra Alta Methodist Church by Rev.William Trowbridge and interment will be in Terra Alta Cemetery. The body will be taken to the church at noon. The family asks that memorials take the form of contributions to the Preston County Tuberculosis and Health Association.
