The twenty-first day of March, in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety-one. I John Arnold of Allegany County in the state of Maryland, farmer, being very Sick and week in Body but of perfect mind and memory thanks be given unto God for the same and calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed to all men once die, Do make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament. That is to say Principaly and first of all I Give and Recommend my Soul into the hands of God that gave it - and for my Body I Recommend it to the earth to be Buried in a Christian like and decent manner at the discretion of my Executors nothing doubting but at the General Resurrection I shall receive the same by the mighty Power of God--- And as touching such worldly Estate wherewith it hath pleased Almighty God to bless me with in this Life. I Give Devise and Dispose of in the manner and form following (that is to say): In the first place I Give and Bequeath unto my two Sons named John and Elias two lots of Land whereon I now live the same to be Equally divided according to the Quantity and Quality of the said Land. Item: I Give and bequeath unto my three daughters named Honour, Margaret and Patience Each of them five pounds Current money to be paid out of my moveable Estate by my Executor when they are of Age-- Item: I Leave and Bequeath to my beloved Wife named Margaret all and Singular the remainder of my Estate Whatsoever, (after the payment of the Land and Just Debts) in case she remains unmarried, and in the case she marries then the same to be equally divided amonst my five children. And I do appoint her my said wife to be sole and only Executor of this my last Will and Testament and I do Utterly Disallow Revoke and Disannual all and every other testaments, wills and Legares, Bequests and Executors by me in any ways named wills and Bequeathed Ratifying and Confirming This and no other to be my last Will and Testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year above written. Signed Sealed Published Pronounced and declared by the said John Arnold as his Last Will and Testament in the Presence of us the Subscribers that is to Say: John Shrimpling his Ralph Logsdon John JA Arnold [seal] David Durbin mark Maryland St Allegany County on the 26th day of April 1791 Came Margaret Arnold Executrix of the within will and made oath on the Holy Evangels of Almighty God that the within Instrument of writing is the True & whole will & testament of John Arnold Late of Allegany County Deceased, that hath come to her hands or possession and that she doth not Know of any other. Test Wm W Mahon Regr Maryland St Allegany County On the 26th day of April Seventeen hundred and ninety one came Ralph Logsdon & David Durbin two of the subscribing witnesses to the within Last will & testament of John Arnold Late of Allegany County Deceased and severaly [separately] Made oath on the Holy Evangels of Almighty God that they did see the testor therein named sign and seal this will and they heard him publish pronounce and declare the same to be his last will and testament that they at the time of him so doing he was to the best of their apprehension of sound & disposing mind memory & understanding that they respectively subscribed their names as witnesses to this will in the presence and at the request of the testor in the presence of each other." test Wm W Mahon Regr An administrative bond was posted by Margaret Arnold, William Logsdon and Elias Magers of Allegany Co. on 7 May 1791, to make a true and perfect inventory of John's estate.1 Allegany Orphans Court (second Monday Oct 1792) ordered that a citation be issued "against Margaret Arnold, executrix of John Arnold Deceased and returnable to December next court." On the second Monday June 1793 this court ordered summons issued "against Margaret Logsdon (Late Margaret Arnold) Executrix of the last will and testament of John Arnold deceased." The 13 Nov 1793 Court was presented an Administrative accounting: "The First Account William Logsdon & Margaret Logsdon (Late Margaret Arnold) Executors of the Last Will and Testament of John Arnold Late of Allegany County deceased....... These accountants charge themselves with an inventory and List of Debts Separate of the said Deceased Amounting to L011..4..6 and they crave an allowance for the following payments and disbursments viz: Current money paid payment on Lotts survey L.. s.. d for the Heirs amounting to............... 12..0 ..3½ Current money paid Surveyors fees on survey 2..16..4½ Current money paid Legisters fees on said Administration 1..17..3½ Commission on said payments a (loss cent?) 0..14..1½ 18..16..1 Balance due said estate.................. L62..0..5 Came William Logsdon and Margaret Logsdon Late Margaret Arnold Executors of the Last Will & Testament of John Arnold Late of said County deceased & made Oath that the aforegoing is a true Account as stated & that they have bon a fide paid or secured to be paid the particular sums for which they have an allowance.
