Will of Hervy Laney

In the presence of God, Amen, I, Hervy Laney, of the city of Cumberland,
county of Allegany, in the state of Maryland, being of sound and
disposing mind, memory and understanding, knowing the certainty of death
and the uncertainty of the time thereof do make this my last Will and
Testament in the manner and form following, that is to say:
        After the payment of all my just debts and funeral expenses, I give,
bequeath and devise unto my brother Zach Laney all my undivided interest
both at law and in Equity in and to all those lots or parcels of ground
lying and being on South Mechanic and Harrison Streets in the city of
Cumberland aforesaid which I inherited from my mother Margaret Laney, in
fee simple forever, also any other real estate I may have inherited from
my said mother I give and devise to my said brother Zach Laney, in fee
simple forever.
  2nd I give, devise and bequeath unto my two sisters Marietta Laney and
Ellen Belle Laney the store, lot and premises which I own and situate on
Baltimore Street in the said city of Cumberland, also the house, lot and
premises on Harrison Stree which I purchased from John W. Morris and
others, also the house lot and premises on South Mechanic Street which I
purchased from Michael Norton and known as the "Old Reed Property" all
in the city of Cumberland aforesaid, in fee simple forever.  I also give
and bequeath to my aforementioned sisters all my household furniture and
effects and all my personal property excepting what is hereinafter
specifically set forth.
  3rd, I give and bequeath unto Merrill Getzandanner my gold watch and
all my machinery for manufacturing "Digitine".
  4th, I give and bequeath my collection of negatives to my nephew,
Vance D.A. Laney.
  5th All the rest and residue of my estate, real, personal and mixed, I
give devise and bequeath unto my brother Zach Laney and my two sisters,
Marietta Laney and Ellen Belle Laney, share and share alike.
  And lastly I nominate and appoint as executor of this my last Will and
Testament my brother Zack Laney.
  In witness thereof, I, Hervy Laney, to this my last Will and Testament
have hereunto set my hand and seal this sixteenth day of December in the
year nineteen hundred and one.

Signed, sealed and declared by Hervy Laney, as and for his last Will and
Testament, in the presence of us, who, at his request, and in his
presence, and in the presence of each other, have subscribed our names
hereunto as witnesses therof.

Whereas, I Hervy Laney, did, on the sixteenth day of December in the
year nineteen hundred and one, make my last Will and Testament, I do now
by this writing, add this codicil to my said will to be taken as part
thereof.

Whereas I have reconsidered the gift of the machinery for manufacturing
"Digitine" to Merrill Getzendanner, mentioned in the 3rd clause of my
said will I herby revoke said gift to said Merrill Getzendanner and do
herby give and bequeath the said machinery for manufacturing "Digitine"
to my sister Marietta Laney as also the formulas for the manufacturing
of the said "Digitine".

In witness whereof, I hereunto place my hand and seal, this 20th day of
May, one thousand nine hundred and three.

Signed, sealed, published and declared to us by the testator, Hervy
Laney, as and for a codicil to be annexed to his last will and
testament, and we at his request, and in his presence, and in the
presence of each other, have subscribed our names as witnesses thereto,
at the date thereof.
