ALFRED RICE Maryland State Archives Micrifilm CR 30-1 Wills - Allegany County, Maryland Liber I, Folio 284 Last Will and Testament of Alfred Rice This the last Will and Testament of Alfred Rice, made on this 10th, day of May, 1907. I give my soul unconditionally to God, my Heavenly Father, When I am dead I wish my body to have respectable and Christian burial, such as is appropriate for our neighborhood and time in the old home graveyard. After my body is buried, I wish my three (3) lots of land containing respectively (118) one hundred and eighteen acres. Eight (8) acres and thirty four (34) acres to be sold. All my personal property consisting of two (2) horses, two (2) cows and two (2) hogs to be sold. All my farming utensils and tools to be sold. A kit of blacksmith tools to be sold. All my household goods and effects to be sold. All the above mentioned property to be sold, both real and personal, at public sale. After paying the expenses of my funeral out of the sum received from the sale of the above mentioned property, I bequeath to my grand-daughter Miss Nellie Rice, daughter of Sanford and Victoria Rice, the full and just sum of one hundred dollars ($100.00) provided she does not marry Bob Cleveland, in case she marries said Bob Cleveland she shall have nothing. The remainder of all the money received from the sale of the above mentioned properly after paying my funeral expenses and one hundred dollars to Miss Nellie Rice, in case she does not marry Bob Cleveland, I bequeath to my seven lawful heirs, namely: Henry Rice, Sanford Rice, Evans Rice, Anna Huff, Bertha George, and Mrs. Bessie Burkhart, who is a daughter of my deceased daughter, Susan Mc Cray - to be equally divided and shared among them. I appoint Sanford Rice and Henry Rice to be my Administrators. I hereby certify that this is my last will and testament. Alfred Rice (Seal) Attest: Columbus Rice John W. Newell State of Maryland Allegany County to wit: On this 18th day of June, 1907 came Henry Rice one of the Executors named in the aforegoing last Will and Testament of Alfred Rice, late of Allegany County, Maryland, deceased, and made oath in due form of law: that he received the said Will for safe keeping from the hands of Alfred Rice, the testator, at the time of the signing and sealing thereof. And the said Henry Rice, further made oath in due form that the aforegoing Instrument of Writing is the true whole last Will and Testament of the said Alfred Rice, deceased that hath come to his hands or possession and that he does not know of any other Will and Testament of the deceased aforesaid. Test. Hervey Shuck Register of Wills State of Maryland Allegany County to wit: On this 21st day of June 1907 came Columbus Rice and John W. Newell, the two subscribing witnesses to the aforegoing last Will and Testament of Alfred Rice, late of Allegany County, Maryland, deceased, and made oath in due form of law, that they did see Alfred Rice the testator, sign and seal said Will' that they heard him publish, pronounce, and declare the same to be his last Will and Testament. That at the time of his do doing, he was, to the best of their apprehensions of sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding, capable of executing a valid deed or contract, and that they respectively subscribed their names as witnesses thereto, at the request of Alfred Rice, the testator, in his presence, and in the presence of each other.
