These electronic pages may NOT be reproduced in any format for profit or presentation by other organizations ______________________________________________________________________ Will of John STEELE Sr. Allegany County CourthouseCumberland, Maryland In the name of God, Amen I, John Steele, Sr., of Allegany County, Maryland, being of sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding, capable of executing a valid deed or contract, and being desirous of settling my worldly affairs and thereby be the better prepared to leave this world when it shall please Almighty God, to call me hence do therefore make, ordain and declare this and none other to be my last Will and Testament in manner and form following that is to say:- First and Principally, I commit my soul into the hands of Almighty God, and my body to the earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my Executor hereinafter named. After the payment of all my just debts and funeral expenses I will devise and bequeath as follows:- Item 1. I will and devise all of my real estate of every kind and description and wheresoever the same may be situated at the time of my death, to my son, Claude L. Steele, in fee simple. Item2. I further give and bequeath all of the stock, including cattle, horses &c., and also all of the household furniture, &c., all of which are now on my farm situated near Lonaconing, Allegany County, Maryland, absolutely to my son, Claude L. Steele. Item3. I give and bequeath all the rest and residue of my personal property, consisting of money &c., to my following named children, viz:-John F. Steele, Margaret S. Stark, Andrew S. Steele, William S. Steele, James S. Steele, George B. Steele, and David B. Steele, share and share alike, Absolutely. It is my further will and desire and I hereby direct that should any of my above named children depart this life prior to my decease and leave issue surviving them that said issue so surviving shall take the share in my estate that their father or mother would have taken, if living, said issue to take per stirpes and not per capita. And lastly, I do hereby constitute and appoint my said son, Claude L. Steele, to be the sole Executor of this my last will and testament and request the Orphans' Court of Allegany County, Maryland, or the Court having jurisdiction over the settlement of my estate, that no bond shall be required of my said Executor other than required by law, hereby revoking and annulling and calling void all other wills, testaments or codicils by me at any time heretofore made, ratifying and confirming this, and none other, to be my last will and testament. In testimony whereof, I hereunto subscribed my name and affixed my seal this 2nd., day of August in the year of our Lord One Thousand Nine Hundred and Sixteen. John Steele, Sr. (SEAL) Signed, sealed, published and declared by the above named testator, John Steele, Sr., as and fro his last will and testament, in the presence of us, who, at his request, in his presence, and all in the presence of each other, have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses thereunto this 2nd., day of August in the year Nineteen Hundred and Sixteen. Steele, the Executor named in the aforegoing last will and testament of John Steele, Sr., late of Allegany County, Maryland, deceased, who made oath in due form of law; that after the death of John Steele, Sr., the testator, he received said will from the hand of the Register of Wills for Allegany County, Maryland, in whose office it was filed for safe keeping on the 2nd day of August, 1916, the date of the signing and sealing thereof. And the said Claude L. Steele, further made oath, that the aforegoing instrument of writing is the true, whole last will and testament of the said John Steele, Sr., that hath come to his hands or possession and does not know of any other will and testament of the deceased aforesaid.
