In the name of God, Amen: I, John Twigg, of Murleys Branch, Alegany County, in the state of Maryland, being sick and weak in body, but of sound disposing mind and memory, and understanding; considering the certainty of death, and the uncertainty of the time thereof, and being desirous to settle my worldly affairs, and thereby be the better prepared to leave this world when it may or shall please God to call me hence, do therefore make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following; that is to say;... First and principally, I commit my soul into the hands of Almighty God and my body to the earth to be decently buried in a Christian-like manner at the discretion of my Executers, herein after named, and after my debts and funeral charges are paid, and my wife third's taken out, I devise and bequeath as follows. I devise and bequeath unto my five sons; Amon, Gabriel, David, Boyad, and Weston, Twigg; all my real estates or tracts of lands in the different directions and places as they lie, including the part or place where my mother posses and dwell at present to be equally devided among them share and share alike; and if they cannot agree in deviding it, the whole estate heretofore mentioned is to be sold twenty years after my death and the money which it is sold for divided they afforsaid; Amon, Gabril, David, Boyad and Weston; I also give and bequeath unto my son Weston aforsaid one horse named Fox and twelve dollars to buy himself saddle; I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Susanna my beloved wife,one sorrel mare, and cow, over and above her third; I also give and bequeath unto my daughter Darkey, one gray horse and fifteen dollars to buy herself a saddle and bed and bedding or thirty dollars in lieu thereof. I give and bequeath unto my son John, one dollar. I give and bequeath unto my two daughters Elizabeth and Lewey wife to Jerrimiah Johnson, one dollar each and no more; I devise and bequeath the residue of my personal property unto my wife Susannah, aforesaid, and my five sons aforsaid Amon, Gabriel, David, Boyad, and Weston, and daughter Darkey, to be devided equally among them share and share alike. And lastly I do hereby constitute and appoint my dear wife Susannah and my son John to be sole executor and executrix of this my last will and testament, revoking, and annulling all formor wills by me heretofore made. Ratifying and confirming this my last will and testament. In testamoney whereof I, hereof set my hand and affixed my seal this 6th day of September, in the year our Lord God, one thousand eight-hundred and twenty-one.
