These electronic pages may NOT be reproduced in any format for profit or presentation by other organizations. ************************************************************************ John Valentine Maryland State Archives Wills - Allegany County, Maryland Microfilm - CR-28-1 Liber B page 175 In the name of God, Amen, I John Valentine of Allegany County in the State of Maryland being in perfect health of body and of sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding considering the certainty of death and the uncertainty of the time thereof and being desirous to settle my worldly affairs and thereby to be the better prepared to leave this world when it shall please God to call me hence, do therefore make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following that is to say: First and principally I commit my soul into the hands of Almighty God and my body to the earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my executors here in after named and after my debts and funeral charges are paid I devise and bequeath as follows: I give and bequeath to my wife Anna Dorothea the dwelling house she formerly occupied situated on the Bedford Road on a lot leased from Thomas Shriver and all the house hold and kitchen furniture, and all other personal property I may have about my house or on the premises at the time of my decease. My will and desire is, and I hereby so direct that my Executor herein after named or either of them that may act as such in a reasonable time after my decease sell all of the Real Estate that I die seized of and own and from the net proceeds of such sale pay unto my wife Anna Dorothea Eight hundred dollars and then divide the remainder into eight equal shares and give one share to each of my children and if any be deceased to divide such share in equal portions among the children of such deceased. And whereas I hold several notes of hand against my children, it is my wish and desire that such notes be estimated in the proceeds of my Estate by my Executors, so that each child's share be equal. And lastly I do hereby constitute and appoint John Gephart and William Hoblitzell the Executors of this my last will and testament revoking and annulling all former wills by me heretofore made edifying and confirming this and none other to be my last Will and testament. In testimony whereof I have here unto set my hand and affixed my seal this tenth day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty five. Thomas Maryland Allegany County to wit: On the first day of May 1860, came John Gephart and William Hoblitzell Executors and made oath in due form of law that the foregoing instrument of writing is the true whole last Will and testament of John Vallentine late of said County deceased that has come to their hands or possession and that they do knot know of any other. Test - G. B. Wedener - Register Maryland Allegany County to wit: On this first day of May 1860 Come Gustavus Beall one of the subscribing Witnesses to the foregoing last will and testament of John Vallentine late of said County deceased and made oath in due form of law that he heard the testator therein named acknowledge that he had signed and sealed said Will that respondent heard testator publish pronounce and declare the same to be his last Will and testament that at the time of his so doing he was to the best of his apprehension of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding and that ? subscribed his name to decd will as a Witness in the presence and at the request of the testator and deponent thinks that Francis Madose one of the other subscribing witnesses to said will was present at the time this deponent so subscribed his name but that he has no recollection of seeing Augustus M. Thomas the other subscribing Witness to said Will. And at the same time came Francis Madose and made oath that he heard the testator aforesaid acknowledge that he had signed and sealed said Will and heard him publish, pronounce and declare the same to be his last will and testament - that at the time of his so doing he was, to the best of deponents apprehensions of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding and that he and Augustus M. Thomas aforesaid respectively, subscribed their names to said Will in the presence and at the request of the testator and in the presence of each other - but that he has no recollection of seeing Gustavus Beall, the other subscribing witness to said Will.
