After, more than 15 years of researching this cemetery. I have compiled a list of burials of persons who are buried in the cemetery. A photograph of the cemetery was donated for this project and a book has been published. The photo of the cemetery has been featured in the book. Some of these burials consists of former slaves who lived in the area. Through, oral interviews from residents who live in the area. The descendents have personal knowledge that their ancestors are buried in the cemetery and can remember seeing the tombstones. I have conducted this research through a genealogy approach and it would be very difficult for others to determine who are buried in the cemetery without making the family connection. Many of the names are the same. After, the burials ceased at Daniel Starr, the attending physcian who, signed the death certificate continued on identifying the cemetery as Daniel Starr instead of Chews Chapel or vice verse and would continue on for many years after. * This also happened in other cases. All known burials at this site are of African American descent who attended the first M.E. Church which later became Chews Chapel Church.
