Most of the surnames researched are associated with this family either by marriage or land ownership. Other surnames are recorded because of the listing of heirs if the ancestor died intestate. William Amos of Baltimore Co. John Vines of Baltimore County, 25 acres out of assignment from William Amos, Sr., granted to William Amos 8 May 1719 – certain tract laid out for John Brown of Ann Arundel Co. MD LW&P 1814-1814, MD Book 151, FHC Film 0013132, page 142 Charles Carroll – Ann Arundel County Charles Carroll had surveyed and laid out a parcel of land called “Company’s Recovery”, lying in Baltimore County, 37 acres. By special warrant for 10 acres obtained 27 February 1813, this land granted to Charles Carroll called “Company’s Recovery”, land lying in line to tract of land called “Orange Resurveyed” and running with and bounding on the same land to “Ensor’s Chance”, then bounding that land. Granted 16 May 1815 MD LW&P 1812-1818, FHC Film 0013134, page 223 Charles Carroll of Ann Arundel County “Company’s Second Recovery, 1st part”, Baltimore County, beginning at tract of land called “Gorsuch’s Folly”, then to “Orange Resurveyed” then to tract of land called“Sheredine’s Discovery”. Granted 17 May 1815. (“Gorsuch’s Folly” granted to John Gorsuch 1726). Samuel Chew of Ann Arundel County Due unto him 400 acres by virtue of assignment from John Crockett and Thomas Bond of Baltimore County out of a warrant for 803 acres granted them 18 November 1723, original date 5 April 1684, granted Samuel Chew the land called “Bonds Gratuity” lying in Baltimore County beginning at a bounded Poplar, 2 bounded red oaks and 2 bounded white oaks standing nigh a great rock on the south side of a ridge called the Rock Ridge and at the head of a Gully descending into the branches of Deer Creek and running thence west 116 perches, etc. Granted ….day October, 1725. Alfred Cole, Anna Maria Cole and Harriet Barney Alfred Cole, Anna Maria Cole of Ann Arundel County and Harriet Barney (wife of Joshua Barney) 6 June 1809 obtained a special warrant to resurvey “Cole’s Choice”, lying in AA County originally 20 May 1760 granted William Cole for 327 acres. Granted 10 August 1741 (Bush Creek runs into Monococy River from the East, close to Mt. Airy.) MD LW&P 1739-1747 FHC Film 0013141 Richard Davis of Ann Arundel County By petition to our agent for management of lands. He was possessed of 3 parcels of land “Hapgard”, 260 acres, granted Thomas Davis, Richard’s father, 25 October 1731. John Worthington Dorsey – Ann Arundel County “Taylor’s Hall”, 10 June 1734 granted John Worthington for 100 acres. “John and Elizabeth” 29 September 1758 granted John Sellman, son of William, 286 acres, “Thezall’s Chances (Hazell’s?)”, 20 November 1735, granted Thomas Worthington for 84 acres, “Gate’s Addition”, 12 June 1734 granted John Aubrey 130 acres. State of Maryland granted J. W. Dorsey tract of land called “Windfor Plains”, 654 acres. 25 September 1811. MD LW&P 1811-1814, FHC Film 0013133, page 39. Edward Dorsey of Baltimore County Management of land escheat 100 acres called “Foster’s Fancy”, taken up by John Foster 29 June 1669. Any rights, devised land unto his son Samuel. Samuel paid unto Nicholas Lowe/Love Esq. Samuel died and Jane, the widow and relict of Samuel Dorsey married Capt. Henry Ayton or Oyton. After their decease, the land goes to Jane, only surviving child and daughter of Samuel Dorsey. The land lies in Ann Arundel county, on south side of Patapsco River. Married 3 times – last to Mary Stanton in 1693. He died 1694, she married Henry Ridgley. Richard Fowler of Ann Arundel County 100 acres “Kilkenny”(?), lying on east side of north branch of the Patuxent, new land “Steven’s Forrest” laid out for Charles Stevens – 2 September 1713 MD Cert& Warrants, 1684-1714, FHC Film 0013083, Bet pages 1-16 Benjamin Gaither of Ann Arundel County Petition of Benjamin Gaither of Ann Arundel County Vachel Gaither, land called “The Addition to the Second Part of the Vacant Lot”, 7 ¼ acres by virtue of common warrant 15 April 1794. Petitioner states further that Vachel Gaither 7 November 1748 obtained a special warrant to resurvey “Pollcat Hill” (sic), originally on 1 September 1687 granted to John Gaither for 391 acres and part of “Turkey Neck”, originally 10 September 1698 granted Richard Snowden for 200 acres. Vachel Gaither had land “Gaither’s Meadows” ¾ of an acre by special warrant 26 November 1798 and …… he departed this life intestate, leaving Benjamin, John, Vachel and Evan Gaither, Juliet Clarke, (a widow), Elizabeth, Ann, Agnes, Ruth and Rachel Gaither, his only children and heirs-at-law. That the said Juliet Clarke has since intermarried with Thomas Bicknell. Patent granted February 5, 1805. Richard Harwood of Ann Arundel County Petition of Richard Harwood – states that land “Secrete Island”, patented by father, Thomas Harwood, departed this life intestate. Richard Harwood was his only child and heir-at-law. Patent granted January 3, 1804 MD LW&P 1801-1808, FHC Film 0013131, page 320 Ralph Hawkins, late of Ann Arundel Co. 10 September 1652, land surveyed and laid out, land lying in Ann Arundel Co., 150 acres by virtue of warrant for 750 acres granted him 15 day of March 1648 for transporting himself, Margarett Hawkins, William Terman/Ferman, Richard Moss, John Cole, Elijah Rutledge, Ralph Hawkins, Jr., William Hawkins and Mary Hawkins. Last will and Testament of Ralph Hawkins 19 September 1669. Devised same to 2 sons, Ralph and William Hawkins, heirs and assigns to be equally divided between them. If Ralph died without heirs, William inherits whole tract. (Both died and land descended to William’s son, William.) He will pay arrears – all tract of land called “Too as a ?”, lying in AA County, now called “Justice Come at Last”, lying close to Deep Creek to a swamp, Blay’s Swamp to land of Richard Young – Maggoty River. 150 acres. Zachariah’s land resurveyed and contains 190 acres and ….in right of his wife, Susannah, the heir and daughter of Nicholas Nicholson of the aforesaid county, who purchased the same of John Miles, who was possessed (?) of the whole tract aforesaid called “Marie’s Mount”. FHC Film 0013141 William J. Mason and Ann, his wife of Washington County William J. Mason and Ann, his wife, of Washington county did set forth that Nicholas Carroll, late of Ann Arundel County, deceased 12 June 1794, obtained warrant to tract called “Brushy Neck” lying in county aforesaid, originally 24 August 1665 granted to John Baldwin for 150 acres with corrections that made the land 176 ¼ acres and whole called “Brushy Neck Enlarged”.
