Baltimore County Union 
December 27, 1873

HOPKINS, JOHNS   Death Of A Millionaire.  Mr. Johns Hopkins, without doubt 
the wealthiest man in the State, died at his town residence, Saratoga street, 
Baltimore, early on Wednesday morning last in the 69th year of his age.  
His remains were interred at Greenmount on Friday.  Mr. Hopkins’ estate is 
estimated by the Baltimore papers to be worth between $15,000,000 and 
$25,000,000.  His last will and testament will be admitted to probate in 
the Baltimore county Orphans’ Court, the deceased having been a resident 
of the 12th district of this county.
