Baltimore County Union Dec. 20,1902
John Beard, (colored), who was a friend of (William) Mack and who had attended 
his funeral, was found dead in his bed at his home near Shawan, on Saturday 
morning. He was over 80 years of age and is believed to have died of heart 
disease.  For some years Beard carried the mail between Cockeysville and 
Shawan.
