MERRYMAN, NICHOLAS H. – In Baltimore, on August 24th, 1890, NICHOLAS H. MERRYMAN, aged 74 years, formerly of Baltimore county. Nicholas H. Merryman, a native of the 8th District of Baltimore county, formerly residing near Cockeysville, where he was engaged in farming, died at his residence, 125 Division street, on Sunday, 24th inst., aged 74 years. Some years since Mr. Merryman was Weigher at the Eastern Hay Scales. For many years past he was a resident of the city, and was the purchasing agent for a hay and produce exchange. He was a kind-hearted gentleman and a good citizen. Mr. Merryman married a daughter of the late Amon Bosley. Mrs. Merryman was a sister of Dr. G. M. Bosley, and also of Mrs. T. Ellen Talbott, mother of Hon. J. Fred. C. Talbott and widow of the late Joshua F. C. Talbott. BEYER, HOWARD WOOD – At Phoenix, Baltimore county, on August 26th, 1890, HOWARD WOOD, son of Wm. L. and Mollie E. Beyer. HALL, ANN – At Bare Hill, Baltimore county, on August 26th, 1890, ANN, aged 77 years, relict of the late John Hall. STILTZ, JOHN G. – At Easton, Md., on August 21st, 1890, JOHN G. STILTZ, aged 44 years, son of Mr. Jarrett Stiltz, formerly of Cockeysville. Mr. John G. Stiltz, aged 44 years, a son of Mr. Jarrett Stiltz, of Cockeysville, and a brother of Mrs. A. J. Rowe, of Towson, died on Thursday, 21st inst., at Easton, Md. His death was caused by peritonitis. He was a good and useful citizen and was generally liked by all who knew him. SANDERS, FRANCIS A. – Near Philopolis, Baltimore county, Md., on August 10th, 1890, FRANCIS A. SANDERS, aged 18 years 4 months and 10 days, grandson of David and Ellen Pierce. A precious one from us has gone- A voice we loved is stilled- A place is vacant in our home Which never can be filled. Farewell, dear brothers, I am at rest, And shall forever be; I could not stay with you on earth, But you can come to me. By His Cousin, A. B. S. DAILY, EZEKIEL - Mr. Ezekiel Daily, aged 53 years, died at his home near this place on the 22d. The funeral, which was largely attended, took place from West Liberty M. E. Church on Sunday, 24th. The Rev. Mr. Roberts conducted the funeral services. Mr. Henry Stiffler was the undertaker. The pall-bearers were- Henry S. Wright, James Wilson, Joseph Kirkwood, John Stirling, Benj. Garrett. The deceased leaves a wife and six children. GARRETT, CHILD - Mr. Richard Garrett buried a little child on Sunday afternoon, 24th inst., at Norrisville M. P. Cemetery. COCKEY, GEORGE B. - Mr. Geo. B. Cockey, of Lutherville, whose death from consumption was noticed in the Journal last week, was buried from his residence on Monday morning, 25th inst. Services were held at 9.30 o’clock A. M., the Rev. John G. Morriss, D. D., of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Lutherville, officiating.- A large number of the relatives and friends of Mr. Cockey were present, including twenty-five members of Mount Moriah Lodge of Masons, of which body Mr. Cockey had been a Past Master. At the conclusion of the religious services the Masons took charge of the body. There were present – Wm. Grason, acting Worshipful Master; C. Harris Collings, Senior Warden; Wm. C. Shriver, Junior Warden; Wm. M. Isaac, Treasurer; Robert Feast, Secretary; Wm. M. Risteau, Senior Deacon; Charles R. Chew, Junior Deacon; Wm. Bowen and J. Alex. Parlett, Stewards; Wm. S. Dunphy, Tyler; Past Masters John Wright, Wm. H. Ruby, R. Edwin Hood, James E. Dunphy, Thomas C. Bruff and Geo. Ries, Rev. Page Milburn of Sharon Lodge, James E. Green, George W. Sadtler, Lewis M. Bacon, D. Hopper Emory, John T. Riley, John F. Hilgerman, M. O. Correa, John B. Miller and Jos. Jackins. Among those present at the residence were Dr. G. M. Bosley, Chas. W. Ridgely, Michael F. Connor, Thos. H. Ridgely, James S. Nussear, C. W. Hoff, Geo. Cassard, Zephaniah Poteet, John W. Ross, Gist T. Cockey, Geo. R. Hoff, Edward S. Young, Augustus W. Bradford, Chas. B. Taylor, Wm. S. Worley, Wm. Martien, Wm. S. Collings, Hon. N. Charles Burke, Capt. Charles B. McClean. The pall-bearers were all members of Mount Moriah Lodge of Masons – Wm. M. Isaac, Wm. H. Ruby, R. Edwin Hook, James E. Dunphy, George Ries and C. Harris Collings. The body was borne by the pall-bearers from the residence to the railroad station, the family and friends all walking, there being no carriages. At 10.40 the funeral cortege entered the cars on the Northern Central Railway and proceeded to Union Station, where carriages were in waiting, and then proceeded to Loudon Park Cemetery, where Rev. Dr. Morris recited the conclusion of the burial service of the Lutheran Church. Wm Grason, Worshipful Master, and Rev. Page Milburn, as Chaplain, read the burial service of the Masons, when the body was consigned to the grave. There was present also a delegation from Maryland Commandery No. 1, Masonic Knights Templar, L. W. Moody, Generalissimo; Grahame Dukehart, Captain General; James W. Bowers, Prelate, and Charles F. Achey, Mr. Cockey having been a member of that Commandery. The floral tributes were beautiful. A large column three feet high of white roses, on top of which was a white dove, from the widow; a large pillow with “Rest” in immortelles, from Mr. and Mrs. John G. Cockey, father and mother; a magnificent cross of white flowers from Mr. and Mrs. Edward S. Young; a large cross from D. Hopper Emory; wreath from Mrs. Samuel Collings; cross from Mr. and Mrs. Jasper M. Berry, Jr.; bouquet from Mr. and Mrs. Jasper M. Berry, and a cross from C. H. and W. S. Collings. Mr. Cockey left a widow and four children, all boys, the eldest being about twenty years old. Messrs. Stewart & Mowen, of Baltimore, had charge of the funeral arrangements. A remarkable circumstance connected with the interment of Mr. Cockey’s remains at Loudon Park is that four members of Mount Moriah Lodge all lie interred within a few feet of each other – Wm. H. Cockey, Dr. Frank Cockey and Geo. B. Cockey, and Dr. Samuel Kepler, the latter of whose lot adjoins that of Col. John G. Cockey.
