HENDERSON Andrew F. 15 Apr 1842 Died from injuries received 16 Apr 1842 Baltimore in the explosion of the Sun; steamboat MEDORA: Andrew F. Henderson, Esq., President of the Company, died about 11 o'clock yesterday morning; he had inhaled the steam, and fatal consequences ___ed from this cause. (Balto. American)- It is with unfeigned sorrow that we place at the head of this list the name of ANDREW F. HENDERSON, Esq., President of the Baltimore and Norfolk Steam Packet Company. It appears that at the time of the explosion Mr. H. was in the forward part of the boat, and was found after the explosion very much scalded. The steam which he inhaled at the same time produced his death, after lingering until half past eleven o'clock yesterday morning. Almost to the last Mr. Henderson retained a perfect consciousness of his approaching end, and yesterday morning with great calmness he made suitable disposition of his temporal affairs. He was a true Christian - unobtrusive and retiring in his manners - active useful and enterprising as a citizen - and estimable in all the relations of life. I look around for thee, my idol child And all day listen for thy gladsome voice Oh, speak to me once more innocent mind, And make this heart, so lone and sad rejoice Our home is desolate since thou are gone, Thy little chair is vacant at the hearth; We hear no more thy step at early dawn, And miss at eve thy joyous tones of mirth But ah, I know that thou in Heaven An angel art amid that spirit threng And unto thee a golden harp is given, To breathe God's praise to rapturous song. And in that land of brightness I shall see My Angel child when life is o'er There, from all pain and sorrow free, I'll dwell with her forevermore. Baltimore, February 1852.
