Charles Canoles last will and testament.

In the name of God, Amen, I, Charles Canoles Sr., of Baltimore County and
State of Maryland, being weak in body, of sound memory and understanding, and
willing to mind the mortality of human life, have made and ordained this my
last will and testament in manner and form following.
First I give and bequeath to my loving wife Elizabeth Canoles after my
decease two lotts or parcels of land the one called Grindon, the other Gay's
inspection containing two hundred acres more or less during her natural
life.  But if she should marry again, then to have but one third of the above
described lotts of land during her natural life and the remaining two thirds
to be divided among four of my children that is to say, William Canoles,
Charles Canoles, Elizabeth Canoles, Martha Jane Canoles, and after my wifes
decease, I give and bequeath all and the whole of the above named lotts or
parsels of land, one fourth part to my son William Canoles, one fourth part
to my son Charles Canoles, one fourth part to my daughter Elizabeth Canoles,
one fourth part to my daughter Martha Jane Canoles to them and their Heirs
for ever.  I also give and bequeath to my wife Elizabeth Canoles all my
Negroes, all my live stock, all my household furniture or in a word all my
personal property during her natural life, but if she should marry again to
have but one third of my personal property, and the two thirds to be divided
between William Canoles, Charles Canoles, Elizabeth Canoles, and Martha Jane
Canoles, my wife must also take... charge and maintain the children until they
arrive to the age of maturity.

I give and bequeath to my son William Canoles three acres of land more or
less called Bishop's lott to him and his Heirs for ever.

I give and bequeath to my daughter Sarah who intermarried with William
Biddison, one dollar and no more.

I give and bequeath to my daughter Mary who intermarried with Benjamin
Parlett, one dollar and no more.

I give and bequeath to my daughter Ruth who intermarried with Moses Landrum,
one dollar and no more.

I give and bequeath to my son James Canoles, one dollar and no more.

I give and bequeath to my daughter Mary Eliza who intermarried with Francis
A. Ford [Foard], one dollar and no more.

And lastly I ordain my son William Canoles my Executor to execute this my
last Will and Testament.

In witness of the same I have set my hand and affixed my seal this ninth day
of June in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty.

Baltimore County L.  On the 10th day of November 1841 came Henry Perine and
Richard Burton, two of the subscribing witnesses to the aforegoing last Will
and Testament of Charles Canoles, late of said county deceased, and made Oath
on this holy evangely of almighty God, that they did see the Testator sign
and seal this Will, that they heard him publish, pronounce and declare the
same to be his last Will and Testament, that at the time of his so doing he
was to the best of their apprehensions of sound and disposing mind, memory
and understanding, and that they together with Robert Fitch the other
subscribing witness thereto, subscribed their names as witnesses to this Will
in his presence, at his request and in the presence of each other.  Sworn to
in open court.

Renunciation of William Canoles

I William Canoles appointed Executor in the last Will and Testament of
Charles Canoles late of Baltimore County, deceased, do hereby refuse to act
as Executor of said Will, and do therefore renounce all my right to letters
Testamentary upon said deceased's estate, and all right, title and claim that
I may or could have had by virtue of said appointment.  In testimony whereof
I here unto subscribe my name this first day of November 1841.

recorded and examined.
