Will of Mary Marshall of Baltimore County,
dated 23 Dec 1745, proved 8 Apr 1749

I, Mary Marshall of Baltimore County in the province of Maryland, widow although weak 
in Body yet being in perfect mind and memory, Do make this my last will and testament 
and hereby revoking all other will or wills heretofore by me made. 

Imp. I give and devise unto my granddaughter Susannah Hall daughter of my Son in law 
John Hall all and singular my Lands Tenements and Real Estate whatsoever in Possession 
Reversion or Remainder[?], To have and to hold all my Lands, Tenements and Real Estate 
as aforesaid unto the said Susannah and to the heirs of her body lawfully begotten. And in 
case my granddaughter Susannah shall die not leaving Heirs of her Body as aforesaid or of 
failure of lawfull [heirs] from the lawfull Descendants of the said Susannah then and in 
every such case I give and Devise all my Lands and Tenements unto my Son in law John 
Hall [for] his natural life. 

2ndly I give and devise unto my Son in Law John Hall of Baltimore County the following 
negro slaves Viz: Santoo, Aboo, young Sarah, and her two children called and known by 
the name of Nodd and Emanuel and Margarett and one best[?] Bed and furniture to him 
the said John Hall his Heirs and Assigns forever. 

3rdly I give and bequeath unto the Son of my nephew George Rosbury called and known 
by the name of George Goldsmith Rosbury one Negro Girl named Wann daughter of a 
negro woman called Sarah and my three years old Mare. 

4thly I give and bequeath unto Aquila Hall son of Aquila Hall deceased one good bed, 
Boulster, two pillows one good Rugg, and two pair sheets. 

5thly I give and bequeath unto Martha Garretson wife of George Garretson all my wearing 
apparel. 

6thly I give and bequeath unto the said Susannah Hall my GrandDaughter aforesaid and 
(after my Debts Legacy's funeral and other Charges first) when she shall attain to the Age 
of sixteen years or when she shall Marry which shall first happen all the residue of my 
Personal Estate, but in case the said Susannah shall Die unmarried or before she attains to 
the age of Sixteen Years then of such her death I give and bequeath my personal Estate to 
be equally divided between my Son in Law John Hall, his brother Aquila Hall, George 
Rosbury and Martha Garretson wife of George Garretson to them their heirs and assigns 
for Ever. And, lastly, I constitute and Appoint my Son in Law John Hall to be my whole 
and Sole executor of this my Last Will and Testament, revoking, Renouncing, making 
void and null all other will or wills Testament or testaments heretofore made or done. In 
witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty third Day of December 
Ano Domini 1745.

Baltimore County, April 8, 1749, then comes Joseph Bailey, William Craig and John 
Kemp, three of the subscribing witnesses to the foregoing Will and being sworn on the 
Holy Evangelists of Almighty God declare that they saw the testaator Mary Marshall sign 
the said will and heard her publish and declare the same to be her last Will and Testament 
that at the time of her sodoing she was to the best of their apprehensions of sound and 
disposing mind and memory and that they Subscribed their respective names as witnesses 
to the said will in her presence and at her Request.
