Will of Richard Owings of Baltimore County, dtd 30 Sept 1805, proved 29 Jan 1806.

In the name of God, Amen, I Richard Owings of Baltimore County State of Maryland, 
being weak in body but of sound mind and understanding calling to mind the uncertainty 
of this life and certainty of death do make and constitute this my last will and testament in 
manner and form following to wit. I commend by soul to God who gave it my body to the 
earth to be buried in a christian like manner at the descretion of my Executors hereafter 
named my desire is that all my just debts together with any funeral expenses shall be fully 
paid and satisfied.

Item. I give unto my loving wife Ruthey Owings my negroe man James to do with him at 
her own election and my negroe woman Mariah to belong to my wife while she remains a 
widow and at marriage or death which shall first happen the said Mariah to be sold and the 
money arising from such sale to be equally divided between my two sons Samuel and 
Esaah. I also give unto my loving wife a feather bed and furniture of her own choice of all 
my bedds likewise my riding mare and my desire is that my wife may not claim her thirds 
of any Estate.

Item. I give and bequeath unto my son Esaah the lot of land that I purhacsed of John 
Moles being part of a tract of land called the Groves containing nine acres more or less to 
him his heirs & assings forever.

Item. my will and desire is that my son Beal Owings shall have my lot of land where I now 
live together with my blacksmiths shop amd tje tools thus is in said shop tp him his heirs 
and assigns forever but my desire is that any son Beal shold keep his two youngest 
brothers amd send his brother Sam three years to skool and Esaah fore years my desire is 
that my wife shold still enjoy and occupy the place where wee now live while she remains 
a widow without any interuption whatsoever. I likewise give unto my son Beal one feather 
bed and furniture and desk that is called my desk.

Item I give unto my son Richard Owings one hundred spannish dollars or common passing 
money likewise. I give unto my son Richard Owingsmy longest gun.

Item I give unto my son Thomas Owings one hundred dollars.

Item I give unto my son Samuel one hundred dollars the above legases to be paid to my 
three sons when they arrive to the age of twent one years. 

Item, I give unto my three sons Stephen, Nicholas, and Joshua fifty dollars to each of them 
my three sons.

Item I give unto my daughter Elizabeth Cockey thirty dollars

Item I give unto my son Samuel one hundred dollars to be paid to my son Samuel when he 
arrives to the age of twenty one years the above legases to bee paid by my Executor 
hereafter named all the rest of my Estate, being of what kind or nature sovever to be 
equally divided between my fore younger sons Richard, Thomas, Samuel and Esaah sare 
and share alike byb two of my onest neighbors.

Lastly I nominate and appoint my lovng wife and my son Beal hole and sole Executors of 
this my last will and Testament and give my son Beal fulll power to convay the land that I 
contracted for at the payment of money as as I sold doe myself.
Signed sealed, and acknowledged by the Testator to be his last will and Testament In the 
presence of us the subscribing Witness present this 30th day of Sept 1805

Baltimore County yo wit: on the 29th day of January 1806 came John Bond Norman 
GOrsuch subscribing Evidences to the aforegoing last will and Testament of Richard 
Owings late of said County, deceased and made oath on the Holy Evangels of Almighty 
God that they did see the Testator sign and seal this will that they heard him publish 
pronounce and declare the same to be his last will and Testament that at the time of his so 
ding he was to the best of their apprehensions of sound disposing mind memory and 
understanding and that they subscribed their names as witnesses...
