Ritmiller, aged twenty three years, who, being duly sworn according to law, makes the following declaration in order to obtain the pension provided by Act of Congress approved June 27, 1890: That he is the legal guardian of Joseph Mary Ritmiller legitimate child of George Ritmiller, who enlisted under the name of George Ritmiller, at Baltimore, Maryland on the 15th day of February, 1864, in Company K, 5th Maryland Volunteers, as a private and served at least ninety days in the War of the Rebellion, in the service of the United States; who was honorably discharged Sept. 1, 1865 and died December 22, 1889. The soldier left no child other than the one claimed for, who was under the age of sixteen years on Jan. 24, 1891. The child claimed for is living. They know these facts by reason of intimate personal acquaintance with the family of the soldier. They further declare they have no interest in said case and are not concerned in its prosecution. I know that he did not remarry after the death of his wife, Maria Rosina - the mother of the claimant and that if he had remarried I would have known of it. I know that of the five children who survived the soldier all were over 16 years of age excepting Joseph and Elizabeth and both of these children are to my certain knowledge still living. This was all written in my presence and only from my own oral statements to A.P. Lloyd at his office 11 July 1895 without aid or prompting in any way by any other person. My daughter was never married before she married Mr. Ritmiller and the said (George) Ritmiller was never married before he married her. I knew him for several years before their said marriage and if their had been previously married I would have known of it. The soldier did not remarry after the death of his wife Rosina. This was all written in my presence and only from my own oral statements to A.P. Lloyd at his office 11 July 1895 without aid or prompting in any way by any other person. He served in said regiment during the War and to my positive knowledge this was the only regiment in which he ever served.
