Cann dies at 65, taught at Northern Funeral services for Charles S. Cann who taught in high schools and college will be held at 2 P.M. today at the Jenkins funeral establishment, 4905 York Road. Mr. Cann, who was 65, died Thursday at his home at 302 Underwood court following a heart attack. Though he retired about five years ago from the Baltimore city school system, he continued to teach writing at the Evening College of the Johns Hopkins University. At the time of his retirement, he taught English and journalism at Northern High School. Earlier he had been on the faculty of Forest Park High School. He began his career with the city schools in 1938, teaching at the Boys Vocational School. A native of Baltimore, he graduated from City College, where he was on the lacrosse team in 1926. In 1931, he graduated from the Hopkins, where he also obtained a master's degree. He also did graduate work at the University of California at Los Angeles. During World War II, he served in the Army Air Corps and with the Office of Strategic Services. He is survived by his wife, the former Sarah Dunlap; two daughters, Mrs. Park Avery of Rome, GA, and Alice McGiffin Cann, of Baltimore; two sisters, Mrs. Charles Rainey, of Wellesley Hills, Mass., and Alice Virginia Cann and three grandchildren.
