V. METZEL DEAD. The Father of the Heptasophs Passes Away Suddenly. George V. Metzel, widely known as the founder of the Improved Order of Heptasophs, died this morning at his home in Stewartstown. Between 9 and 10 o'clock in the forenoon, he was discovered unconscious by his grand-daughter Veasey Metzel. Dr. J. R. Martin was summoned buy by the time he could reach the sick man's side, he had died. Squire Bartenschlager later in the day empanelled a jury and an inquest was held. This had not be concluded at the time The Dispatch went to press. But it was evident that Mr. Metzel's death was due either to apoplexy or heart failure. Mr. Metzel's connection with the Heptasophs dates from the very inception or the order in 1878 and he was generally acknowledged as the founder of the order. Recently he celebrated the golden anniversary of his wedding, on which occasion the leading members of the order united in presenting him with an autograph collection of congratulatory letters handsomely bound, in addition to $100 in gold. Mr. Metzel was born in York, December 15, 1824. Upon attaining his majority he removed to Baltimore, where he resided 38 years. In that time he served some years as a member and official of the Baltimore Police Force; and was during another period Justice of the Peace of the Twentieth ward. Upon leaving Baltimore he located at Stewartstown, where he continued to reside up to the time of his death. December 13, 1849, he married Agnes E. Patterson of York, who with two sons - one in Washington and one in Baltimore and a daughter who is at home survive him. The time of the funeral has not yet been set.
