Mr. James C. Morford, the last memeber in Baltimore of the Old Defenders' Association, died Monday. The deceased was born September 10th, 1795, at Long Green, this county, and was 93 years, 7 months and 7 days old. He was a carriagesmith by trade. When he was nineteen years old he enlisted for the defense of Baltimore, his captain being Henry Fowler, In 1821 Mr. Morford married Miss Elizabeth Fowler, daughter of Richard and Mary Fowler, of this county, and she dying in October, 1839, he married in 1840 Miss Ruth Biddison, daughter of John and Hannah Biddison, of Baltimore. There were five daughters and one son by the first marriage and two children by the second. Four daughters of the first marriage are living, Mrs. Mary J. Cornelius, Mrs. Susan McComas, Mrs. Alice Cowley and Mrs. Julia Lewis. In addition to these Mr. Morford had fourteen grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, the last a girl of seventeen months. Mr. Morford was a Republican in politics, although he voted for Andrew Jackson. At the last election he walked to the polls and voted as usual. From a young man he was a member of the Methodist Church until about six years ago, when he allied himself with the Christian Baptist denomination. His last attendance at worship was about five weeks ago. He was always strictly temperate in his habits, and never used tobacco in any form. His eyesight remained unimpaired, and he never used glasses. The funeral of Mr. Morford took place from his late home in Baltimore Wednesday afternoon, and the remains were placed in a vault in Greenmount Cemetery. They will eventually be interred in the family burying ground in this county.
