Enlisted May 1863 Discharged June 1865 FILED BY A.M.M Blair Atty. 43 Corcoran Bldg Washington, DC GENERAL AFFIDAVIT CASE OF Daniel Eastare Co. A, 4th Md Vols Colored for pension AFFIDAVIT OF John H. Jones & Sandy Gardner State of Maryland County of Baltimore In the matter of the Pension claim of Daniel Easteare Personally came before me a Deputy Clerk of the Superior Court in and for aforesaid County and State, John H. Jones aged 39 years and Sandy Gardner aged 35 years citizens of the City of Baltimore County, State of Maryland being duly sworn, declare in relation to aforesaid case as follows: We were both members of Company A. 4th Regiment of Maryland Volunteers, Colored. That we know the claimant well and were present in the summer of 1864 at Spring Hill in Virginia when he was hurt by the blow from a musket. We saw the fight among the men and saw Daniel Easteard struck by one of the men while he was trying to stop the fight, we have known Daniel from the time he enlisted in 1863, we all enlisted together. He was very severely hurt by the blow, he was knocked senseless and carried to the Hospital at Point of Rocks, and did not rejoin the regiment until about six months afterwards, he was never good for much duty after that, could not march any distance. We have known the claimant ever since and have seen him from time to time since then and we know that he has been unable to do any hard work since, and has always been sort of foolish since he was hurt in 1864 in the army. We further declare that we no interest in said case, and are not concerned in its prosecution. Wm. A. Campbell John H. Jones (his mark) R.
