The Seeds are first planted in small Beds & transplanted. The principal reason is that the Ground could not be prepared sufficiently early, for the Frost continues too long in this part of this Continent, and the seeds must be planted abt. the 10th of March. -- The plants in putting into the Ground from are two months after the commencement till the finishing. The hillocks are made with (mention here the former manner of making the Holes) the Hoe into which they are planted -- there are about 3 Feet square asunder -- but if only 2 F. & half the plants have a finer color but do not grow so large, though the Ground will produce equal in quanity. The plants are transplanted in rainy weather. -- Whether the leaves near the Roots, or the tops are taken off to make the remaining ones larger, or both ?
