FREDERICK Know Ye That Whereas Edmund Melvin of Dorchester County, MD by his humble petition to our agents for management of land affairs within this province did set forth that he was seized in … of and in a tract or parcel of land called Goose Pond lying and being in the County aforesaid originally on the 3rd day of July Amo Domino 1732 granted unto a certain John Melvin, the petitioner father, for 50 acres under new rent contiguous to which tract the petitioner had discovered some new rent land and being desirous to add the same humbly prayed a special warrant to resurvey the aforesaid tract for that intent and purpose and that on return of a certificate of such resurvey he making Goodnights to the covenancy added and comply along with all the other requisites usual in such cases might have our Grant of Confirmation issued unto him thereon which was granted him and accordingly a warrant on the 2nd October 1761 unto him for that purpose did issue in pursuance whereof it is certified into our land office that the aforesaid tract or parcel of land is resurveyed by which it appears the same contains the exact quantity of 50 acres and that there is the quantity of 71 acres of covenant land added for which he has paid and satisfied unto Edward Lloyd, Esq. Our present agent and treasure general for our use as well the sum of 3 pounds 11 shillings and sterling caution for the same as the sum of 10 shillings sterling for some improvements mentioned to be made thereon according to Charles Lord Baron of Baltimore, our great grandfather of Noble memory his instructions to Charles Carroll, Esq. His then agent bearing date at London the 12th day of September 1712 and registered in our Secretaries office of our said province together with a paragraph of our Dear Father's Instructions bearing date at London the 15th day of December 1738 and registered in our Land office. WE DO therefore hereby grant and confirm unto him the said Edmund Melvin all that the aforesaid tract or parcel of land now resurveyed with the ? added included into one entire tract and now called Addition to the Goose Pond lying and being in the county aforesaid Beginning for the out bounded or the whole tract at a marked white oak hanging in the fork of the Robins Branch where a small branch falls into the said Robins branch, called the Marshy Prong and a little below said Melvin's Plantation it being the beginning tree of the original Goose Pond then runs N 14 degrees W, 12 perches then N 40 degrees W 116 perches then N 32 degrees E 36 perches then N 62 degrees E 24 perches then S 27 degrees E 30 perches then S 58 degrees E 20 perches S 43 degrees E 26 perches then S 30 degrees W 10 perches then S 18 degrees E 12 perches then S 33 degrees 78 perches then S 87 degrees E 68 perches then S 60 degrees E 60 perches then S 28 degrees W 26 perches then S 7 degrees W 42 perches then S 80 degrees W 40 perches then N 72 degrees W 60 perches then with a straight line to the first beginning containing 121 acres of land more or less according to the Certificate of Survey thus taken and returned into our land office bearing date the 5th day of April 1762 and there remaining together with all rights profits benefits and privileges there unto belonging Royal Miner Excepted to Have and to Hold the same unto him the said Edmund Melvin his heirs and assigns for ever to beholden of us and our heirs as of our Manor of Nanticoke in free and common ……… by all healthy only for all manner of services yielding and paying therefore yearly unto us and our heirs at our receipt at or city of St Mary’s at the two most usual feasts in the year Viz the feast of the Annunciation of the Beloved Virgin Mary and St Michael the arch angel by win and equal portions the rent of 4 shillings and 10 pence half penny sterling in silver or gold and for afino upon were alienation of the said land or any part or parcel thereof one whole years rent in silver or gold on the full nature thereof in such commodities as we and our heirs or such officer or offices shall be appointed by us and our heirs from time to time to collect and receive the same shall accept in discharge thereof at the choice of us and our heirs as such officer or officers aforesaid provided that if those said turn for a fine for alienation shall not be paid unto us and our heirs or such officer or officers aforesaid before such. Alienation and the said alienation entered upon record either in the Provincial Court or County Court where the same parcel of land such within one month next after such alienation then the said alienation shall be void and of no effect given under our great seal of our said Province of Maryland this 29 day of September 1763. Witness our trust and well beloved Horatio Sharpe Esq. Lieutenant General and Chief Governor of our said Province of Maryland and Chancellor and keeper of the great seal thereof. Of Addition to the Goose Pond 121 acres, patented 29th September 1763. MARYLAND April the 5th 1762. By virtue of a special warrant of resurvey granted unto Edmund Melvin of Dorchester County bearing date the seventh day of October 1761 to resurvey a tract or parcel of land called Goose Pond originally on the third day of July Anno Dom 1732 granted unto a certain John Melvin the petitioners father, for 50 acres of land under new rent. I humbly certify that I have resurveyed for and in the name of him the aforesaid Edmund Melvin, the aforesaid tract or parcel of land and find it to contain fifty acres of land to which I have added 71 acres of vacant land and have reduced the whole into one entire tract now called addition to the Good Pond lying and being in the County aforesaid.
