WGN #B [CR83], pp. 231-233 In the name of God, Amen ~ I, Moses Coker of Caroline County in the State of Maryland, being of sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding, and considering the uncertainty of the frail and transitory life and being desirous to settle my worldly affairs and be the better prepared to leave this world when it shall please God to call me hence, do therefore make, ordain, publish and declare this to be my last will and testament in manner and form following ~ that is to say ~ First and principally I commit my soul unto the hands of Almighty God, and my body to the earth to be decently buried in a flat top Gum coffin by any executor hereandafter named. And after my debts and funeral charges are paid and fully discharged and satisfied, the residue of my estate both real and personal I give and bequeath as follows, to wit ~ I give and bequeath to my daughter Catharine Coker the sum of three hundred dollars to be paid to her in installments of eighteen dollars a year with the interest of the principal which may be due at the time of said payment to be paid to her by my executor as long as she may live if said sum of three hundred dollars is not all consumed ~ I give and bequeath to Mahala Barrett my daughter the sum of one hundred dollars. I give and bequeath to Abner Coker my son the sum of one dollar ~ I give and bequeath to my granddaughter Sarah Augusta Thomas, daughter of Clementine Wyatt, the sum of fifty dollars. To the remainder of the children of Clementine Wyatt, I give and bequeath the sum of one dollar each ~ I give and bequeath to my grandson [Eben?] Baynard the sum of fifty dollars ~ I give and bequeath to Jeremiah Baynard, my grandson, the sum of fifty dollars ~ I give and bequeath to my grandson Eugene Baynard the sum of one dollar ~ I give and bequeath to John Henry Parker, my son in law, the sum of twenty dollars. I give and bequeath to Moses Coker, grandson of Daniel Coker, the sum of two hundred dollars. I give and bequeath to Patrick Henry Coker the sum of one dollar ~ I give and bequeath to my granddaughters, the daughters of Abner Coker, the sum of fifty dollars each to be paid when they arrive at full [sic] by my executor. To pay and satisfy the above bequeaths I will that the farm or tract of land adjoining the lands of Kenny Dill and the farm where John Lockerman now lives, and situate [sic] on the East side of the public road leading from Greensboro to [Quilton's] Saw Mill, being the same land purchased of William Hughlett and containing one hundred and forty nine acres more or less, the same to be sold to the highest bidder, [reserving?] all of land on the South side of the mill road, and applied as herein before specified ~ I give and bequeath the entire residue of my estate both real and personal to my grandsons John Henry Coker, John Wesley Coker and Felix Coker, sons of Abner Coker to be equally divided among them share and share alike to be paid to them when they arrive at age, and if either of the above named three boys should die before they arrive at age the entire interest of the minor deceased to go to Abner Coker the father of said boys ~ I likewise make and constitute and appoint Andrew B. Roe of Caroline County State of Maryland to be executor of this my last will and testament, hereby revoking all former will [sic] by me made ~ In witness whereof I have herewith subscribed my name and affixed my seal this eighth day of September one thousand eight hundred and sixty four. his Moses X Coker {seal} mark The above written instrument was subscribed by the said Moses Coker in our presence and acknowledged by him to each of us to be his last will and testament. Witness ~ Saml. Councell A. Ridgaway William [Massey?] [Mafrey?] Caroline County to wit The 16th July 1867 Then came Andrew B. Roe the executor named in and by the aforegoing will and made oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God, that he knows of no will or [illegible] of Moses Coker, late of Caroline County deceased other and of a later date than the aforegoing instrument of writing, and that he received the same from the testator on or about the eighth day of September 1864. Todd, Regr. of Wills for Caroline County Caroline County to wit The 16th July 1867 Then came Samuel Councell and William [Massey?] [Mafrey?], two of the subscribing witnesses to the aforegoing last will and testament of Moses Coker late of Caroline County deceased, and severally made oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God, that they did see the testator therein named sign and seal this will, that they heard him publish, pronounce and declare the same to be his last will and testament, that at the time of so doing he was to the best of their [apprehences?] of sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding, and that they together with Alexander Ridgaway, subscribed their names as witnesses to this will, in the presence and at the request of the testator, and in the presence of each other.
