Mazziott of Woodbine; and a niece, Anne Bradford and her husband Thomas of Woodbine. She was preceded in death by a sister, Erna Feeney. O'Brien, James Anthony O'Brien, age 56, of Littlestown, PA, died suddenly on Thursday, March 27, 2003, at the University of Maryland Hospital. Born on July 5, 1946, in Scranton, Pa., he was the son of the late James M. and Marie Ann Webber O'Brien. He was the husband of Carol C. O'Brien (nee Blankenship) of Littlestown, PA. Mr. O'Brien began working for Western Electric in Cockeysville many years ago. He had worked in the Auxiliary Police Dept. of Baltimore County and then became an officer for the Baltimore County Police. He had served in the Maryland National Guard for many years. He also had worked for several years for Baltimore Gold & Silver. For the past four years he had worked as a Help Desk Specialist in Information Technology for the University of Maryland Medical System. Surviving in addition to his wife are sons, James J. O'Brien of Catonsville, James W. O'Brien of Timonium and Zachary Thomas of Littlestown, Pa.; daughters, Karen M. Spigone of Catonsville, Mindy L. German of Wolcott, Vt., Brittainy C. O'Brien of Denton, Md. and Jessica M. O'Brien of Littlestown; brothers, Patrick M. O'Brien of Baltimore and Ronald P. O'Brien of Sykesville, sister, Maureen Moczulski of Eldersburg; and a grandson; Abel German of Wolcott, Vt. He is also survived by 9 nieces and nephews. Green Luther Lincoln Green, age 71, of Sykesville, died on Thursday, March 27, 2003, at the Howard County General Hospital. Born on May 17, 1931, in Bakers Creek, Tenn., he was the son of the late Thomas Jefferson and Elsie Watson Green. He was the husband of Alice Green of Sykesville. He had served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict in Japan and the Phillipines. He was retired from the Department of Defense after 35 years. He had obtained his B.S. degree from University College, University of Maryland. He then became the owner of Green Associates and for the past year owned the Custom Wood Shop, Sykesville. Surviving in addition to his wife are sons, Anthony Wesley Green of Berkley Springs, W.Va, and Paul Keith Green of Sykesville, brother, Hayden Green of Tempe, Arizona; and sisters, Lillie Mae Kerr of Cleveland, Tenn., and Frances Haywood of Columbia, S.C. Born September 12, 1917 in New Hampshire, she was the daughter of the late Reginald and Frances Law. She was the wife of the late Frederick A. Faffley Sr. who died in 1978. He was born January 4, 1915, in Tuckasegee, North Carolina, the son of the late James Middleton and the late Arlecia Shook Middleton. He was a retired welder for Alpha, Portland Cement Company. He was Baptist by faith. Born January 5, 1923, in Pennsylvania, he was a son of the late John and Ella Pellak. He was the husband of the late Mable Jean Pe11ak. Mr. Pellak was a veteran of W.W.II and had served in the U.S. Army from February 1943 to November 1945. He had served in the battles in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. He had received the Good Conduct medal, the Meritorious Unit Award and the Five Bronze Star Victory Medal. He had owned and operated a limousine company before retirement. Mr. Pellak liked to play bingo and cards. He was a Phi11ies baseball fan and an Eagles football fan. She had been a homemaker for most of her life and before her marriage had been a secretary with Howard Uniform Co. and a switchboard operator with Mt. Wilson Hospital. JoAnne Brock Hill JoAnne Brock Hill, 53, of Lisbon, died Saturday, April 12, 2003, at the University of Maryland Hospital. She is survived by her husband, Grant, and three sons, Rob, Blair and Rusty. In addition, she is survived by her mother, Ruth L. Brock of Virginia; two sisters, Myra Finney of Virginia and Sandra Prine of North Carolina; and three brothers, Alan of Virginia, and Dean and Glen, both of Florida. She is also survived by special friends Pete Waters and family. Born in Norfolk, Va., on December 24, 1949, she had been a resident of western Howard County for the last 22 years. Soon after graduating from high school, she began a career with the Social Security Administration, lasting 17 years until her marriage to Grant Hill on August 18, 1981. In addition to being a full time mother and housewife, she was a volunteer for Howard County Hospice from 1984-1994 and served as Director of Development for Frederick County Hospice 1994-1995. A gourmet cook, Jo Anne was also active in the Ladies of Virginia and a local ladies Southern Living group. She was involved in the Women's Organization for the Howard County Farm Bureau, Howard County 4-H PAC Committee, Auxiliary to the Maryland State Dental Association and Women's Bible Study Group Coordinator and leader of several women's studies at Chapelgate Presbyterian Church in Marriottsville. Jo Anne always enjoyed the time spent with her husband and sons working on their Western Maryland farm. Her special love was animals. Young, 82, of Mount Airy, died Thursday April 10, 2003, at Northampton Manor Health Care in Frederick. He was born December 19, 1920, in Mount Airy, the son of the late Herman H. Young and the late Eva Schneider Young. He was employed by Mullinix Grain and Fertilizer Co. in Woodbine. He was a life long member of Locust Grove Church of the Brethren in Mount Airy. He served as an usher at the church for many years. He was the husband of Annabelle Scott Brake, his devoted wife of 15 years. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elaine Law Brake:, his wife of 44 years. Born March 16, 1921, in Auburn, W. Va., he was the son of the laic Wilbur Elisha Brake and Amy Lessie Ireland Brake. Mr. Brake was an educator. He taught illiterate recruits during the 2nd World War. He served in the Army and saw combat service in Germany . He was wounded in action in 1944. He was awarded many commendations including a Purple Heart. He received his bachelor's degree from Glenville State Teachers College and his master's degree and principal certification from West Virginia University. He began his teaching career at age 18, serving as both teacher and principal in Ritchie County, W. Va. He retired from Montgomery Count Public Schools where he was a special education teacher at Damascus Elementary School. Mr. Brake was a licensed preacher and a life-long member of the United Methodist Church. Mr. Brake was a member of numerous civic and service organizations including the Lions Club, the Odd Fellows, the Chamber of Commerce, the Disabled American Veterans, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. She had worked as a waitress and later in life as a caregiver. She is survived by one son, William E. Sutphin of Glen Burnie; two daughters, Joan E. Paulsen of Sykesville and Christine A. Lewis of Stevensville; and two sisters, Margaret Rimbos of Chicago, IL and Charlotte Cohen of Pimlico, MD. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Born on August 9, 1925, in Sykesville, she was the daughter of the late Harry J. and Elizabeth E. Shipley Myers. She was the wife of Francis Aaron Green of Sykesville. She was a graduate of Sykesville High School and had worked many years as a bookkeeper for the former Hutzler's Department Stores. For 19 years she had been a teacher's aide, fourteen years at Eldersburg Elementary and five years at Freedom Elementary School. She volunteered at the Carroll County General Hospital Auxiliary. Eleanor was a life-long member of Wesley Freedom United Methodist Church and had attended the Oakland United Methodist Church. Wetzel Evelyn Carrie Wetzel, 96, of Sykesville, died Monday, April 21, 2003, at her home. Born June 23, 1906, in Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Carrie Knight Smith. She was the wife of the late William F. Wetzel. She had been a retail salesperson Surviving are daughter Dolores Smith of Sykesville, devoted friend Joseph Wissel of Sykesville; granddaughter and grandson-in-law Paula L. and Kevin C. Riley of Westminster, grandson Steven P. Smith of Sykesville; a great granddaughter and a great grandson Kevin P. Riley of Westminster and a great great grandson Dylan Scott Fowble of Westminster. Leo Vogelsang Leo Theodore Vogelsang, 75, of Winfield, died Monday, April 21, 2003, at Westminster Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was the husband of Joyce M. Pruett Vogelsang He was born November 14, 1927, in Baltimore, the son of the late Leo J. Vogelsang and the late Eleanor Shealey Vogelsang. Mr. Vogelsang worked for 42 years for Western Maryland Railroad and CSX. He was a member of the United States Marine Corps and served in W.W.II and Korea. Mr. Vogelsang was also a member of the Merchant Marines from 1948 to 1951 and an active member of the crew of the Liberty Ship USS John W. Brown. Besides his wife, he is survived by 3 brothers, Ronald of Baltimore, Joseph of Baltimore and Eugene Vogelsang of Pennsylvania; a sister, Evelyn Frank of Randallstown; 3 step-daughters, Joyce Ann Vogelsang of Pennsylvania, Rebecca Jennings of Delaware and Sandra Currence of Winfield; 2 stepsons, Thomas and Robert Warner, both of Winfield; numerous step-grandchildren and step-great- grandchildren. Wedge (nee Knight), 90, died April 21, 2003, at Golden Age Guest Home in Sykesville. She was the daughter of the late Maurice L. Knight and the late Mamie Schaeffer Knight. She was the wife of the late Thomas V. Wedge. She was born June 2, 1912 in Baltimore. She was an executive secretary for B & O Railroad and USF & G. Survivors include nephews, Michael L. Knight, Sr. of Winfield and Stephen J. Knight of Glen Burnie and niece, Margie Knight of Salisbury. Funeral Liturgy (Mass) will be held April 24, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Community, 915 Liberty Road, Sykesville, with Fr. Paul Reich, SM officiating.
