Born September 4, 1957, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Catherine Feeney Rice, Sr. She was the wife of Kevin M. Brennan of Sykesville. They had been married for 25 years. She was a mail carrier for the Woodbine Post Office. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Sykesville. In addition to her husband she is survived by son Eric M. Brennan and daughter Michelle A. Brennan, both of Sykesville; brother Daniel Rice of Glen Burnie and sister, Sharon Appleby of Pasadena. She was predeceased by a brother, Herbert G. William Howard Taft Pickett, Sr. William Howard Taft Pickett, Sr., 93, of Owings Mills, died on Tuesday, April 22, 2003, at Future Care Cherrywood, Reisterstown. Born on October 7, 1909, in Woodbine, he was the son of the late Edward and Olivia Davis Pickett. He was the husband of the late Margaret V. Pickett. He had worked as a carpenter for most of his life. He had served in the US Army during WWII. He was a member of the American Legion, Liberty Post #122. He is survived by son and daughter-in-law, William T., Jr. "Sonny" and Phyllis Pickett of Sykesville; daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and Donald Parrish of Owings Mills and Diane and Robert Bouis of Westminster; and brother Walter Ford Pickett of Baltimore. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 8 great- grandchildren and 1 great-great-granddaughter. He was predeceasesd by siblings, Ed and Charles Pickett, Annie Pickett, Inez Norwood, Georgie Johnson and Lillian McFarland. Clare, 87, of Sykesville, died on Wednesday, April 23, 2003, at her home. Born on December 13, 1915, in Hancock County, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late Coleman S. and Delsie Wilburn Winkles. She was the wife of the late James T. Clare. Gertrude and her husband enjoyed traveling and working their farm. They were very active in farming in Carroll and Howard counties. They were members of the Maryland State Grange since 1965. During WWII, she was a defense worker for American Hammer, Inc. of Baltimore where she was frequently honored for her contributions to the war effort. Following the war, she worked 27 years for the New Haven Pulp and Board Co. of Illchester, Md. Her last ten working years were spent with the Carroll County Board of Education where she retired in 1984. She was a charter member of Sharon Baptist Church in Lisbon. Since 1986, she was a member of the Church of the Open Door in Westminster where she enjoyed the Super 60's class. Her wish was for any gifts of remembrance to please be made to others. She is survived by brothers, Joseph Winkles of Finksburg and Jessie Winkles of Sykesville. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by siblings, John, Glenn and Dan Winkles, June Barnard and Roy Trent. Interment is in Lake View Memorial Park. James F. Reese, Sr. James F. Reese, Sr., 62, of Ellicott City, died on Saturday, April 26, 2003, at the Howard County General Hospital. He was born on December 28, 1940, in Marriottsville, Md. He had worked in the Dietary Department at Springfield Hospital Center. He loved to fish. He is survived by his son, James F. Reese, Jr. of Sykesville; mother, Agnes Reese of Marriottsville; and brothers, William Reese of Sykesville and Thomas Reese of Union Bridge. Myrl "Bud" Flohr Sr. Myrl "Bud" Pool Flohr Sr., 81, of Flohrville, died Wednesday, April 23, 2003, at Continuum Care at Sykesville. Born November 17, 1921, in Maryland, he was the son of the late Wayne Leroy and Donna Pool Flohr. He was the husband of the late Irene B. Flohr who died in 1982. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during WWII having served on the USS Santa Fe as Chief Gunners Mate. He participated in most major battles in the Pacific. He retired from the Navy Reserves. He worked in the refridgeration and air conditioning business for 55 years. He was a past member of the VFW, American Legion and Moose Lodge. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and pilot. Surviving are son and daughter-in-law, Myrl Pool Flohr Jr. and Frances Flohr of Westminster; and granddaughter Rachel Peterson of Manchester. Funeral services were held on Sunday at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville, with Rev. Roland "Bud" Brown officiating. Interment is in Springfield Cemetery, Sykesville. Leonard A. Snead II Leonard A. Snead II, 78, died unexpectedly April 17, 2003, in West Palm Beach, Florida. "Swoose" was born March 29, 1925, and raised, with three other siblings, by his widowed mother on a farm in Mount Airy. He was the husband of Bette Snead. Swoose entered the U.S. Naval Academy in 1943, graduating with the Class of 1947. After a tour on the cruiser Spokane, he earned his aviator wings of gold in 1949. RADM Snead had an illustrious and varied aviation career. He flew seaplanes in Panama and was a flight instructor in Pensacola before transitioning to jets, flying the A-3D Skywarrior. He was a renowned test pilot in the early 1960s prior to being selected as the commanding officer of VA-75, the Navy's first A-6A intruder squadron. He trained and led the squadron of the Intruder's first combat deployment in 1965, earning an air medal. Subsequently, he commanded VA-42, the USS Diamond Head and the aircraft carrier USS Forestal. Promoted to Rear Admiral in 1972, Snead reported to the Pentagon as the program manager for the then struggling F-14 Tomcat; he was credited for saving the now famous aircraft from cancellation. Snead's final Navy tour was commanding the Navy's Pacific Fighter Wing. After leaving the Navy, Snead was a vice president of Grumman International in London, England, before going to work for the Pratt and Whitney Corporation in Palm Beach. In retirement, when he wasn't skiing with his grandchildren, he could be found playing golf and tennis, or socializing with friends. He also was an active member of the Navy League. He will be fondly remembered by all who knew him and his infectious smile will be greatly missed by his family and countless friends. Surviving, besides his wife of 57 years, are his children, Alex, Jim, Michael and Paul; their spouses; 11 grandchildren; sister-in-law Arline Snead and niece Linda Snead Field of Mount Airy; niece Barbara Freeburger of Ellicott City, niece Kay Van Slooten of S.C.; and sister Patricia Sivik of Florida. He was predeceased by a brother, John O. Snead, and a sister Gladys Magin. A memorial service was held at the Naval Academy Chapel on April 28 followed by interment in the Academy cemetery. Mae Elizabeth Lohoefer Mae Elizabeth Lohoefer (nee Kirby), 87, of Woodbine, died Friday, April 25, 2003, at Westminster Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center in Westminster. She was the wife of the late Charles Z. Lohoefer, Jr. She was born June 19, 1915, in Baltimore, the daughter of the late Will and Minnie Kirby. She moved to Woodbine in the late 1950s. She worked for Old McCormick Spice Co. in Baltimore for 5 years, which is where she met her husband Charles Lohoefer, Jr. and then worked at Wire and Assembly the early years and then Westinghouse Electric Co. in Linthicum for 9 years. She then retired to be a homemaker until going into assisted living in late 1997. Surviving are a sister, Virginia Spacek of Brooklyn Park; a son and daughter- in-law, Charles III and Alice Lohoefer of Woodbine; grandson and wife, Charles IV and Michele Lohoefer of Woodbine; grandson, Kenneth A. and wife Lauren Lohoefer of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; step-granddaughter, Tammy Cantwell and husband Chris of Woodbine; and 7 great grandchildren. Born June 14, 1911, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late William and Nellie Handley Denson. Twice married, she was the wife of the late Walter Enos and the late Edward Schmidt. She had worked as a baker for the American Stores Bakery. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Sykesville. She is survived by daughter, Eleanor T. Vleeschouwer of Eldersburg; daughters and sons-in-law, Helen M. Born February 22, 1912, in Connellsville, Pa., he was the son of the late Horace Greeley Guynn, Sr. and the late Augusta Ruff Guynn. He was the husband of 57 years to Janice Harner Guynn . Mr. Guynn was a lumberman and farmer and he retired from General Motors in Baltimore in 1972. He attended Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Winfield. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman. He was the husband of Emma M. Peddle Foltz of Sykesville. He was born February 17, 1927, in Mt. Ranier, Washington, D.C., the son of the late Elbie Wilbur Foltz, Sr. and the late Catherine Foltz (nee Edwards). He retired as a system analyst for the State of Maryland. He graduated from Calvert Hall High School. He was a sergeant In the Army during WW II. He was a member of Taylorsville-Winfield Lions Club for 31 years, and was Lions Club treasurer for 26 years. He was awarded the highest Lionism Award, the Melvin Jones Award in 2002. He was one of the original founders of the Taylorsville- Winfield Lions Club baseball league. In December 2002, the Taylorsville-Winfield Lions Club named the baseball field as "Joe Foltz Field" in his honor for his many years of service in Lions Club and baseball. Besides being a member of Taylorsville Winfield Lions Club since 1972, he was a member of the Westminster Elks #2277 and past member of Freedom Optimist. She was a graduate of Villa Julie College and Notre Dame. She was a medical transcriptionist with Dr. Perezmeara for 18 years and was the former owner of Medi-Script. She was the wife of the late Louis Perry, late Jesse Sirk and the late Harry Pickett. She was born July 8, 1908 in Sneedsville, Tenn., the daughter of the late Ace and late Sarah Rhoystin Barnard. She was a homemaker all her life and loved gardening and cooking. She was saved at an earlier age at Idas Chapel in Sneedsville, and remained a faithful member until moving to Maryland where she was a faithful member of Sharon Missionary Baptist Church, Sykesville, until her death. Surviving are children, the Rev. She was the wife of Charles Edward Tanner, her husband of 38 years. Born March 15, 1934, in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of the late Henry Vern and Mary Kirk McLendon, Sr. Mrs. Tanner was an electronics assembler at Triton Engineering in Rockville for 10 years, retiring in the 1980s. She enjoyed bowling, dancing and loved flowers, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family. Shirley Logue Shirley Irene Snowdon Logue, 70, of New Windsor, died Saturday, May 17, 2003, at her home. She was born April 13, 1933, in Mount Airy, the daughter of Emma Magers Snowdon of Mount Airy and the late Gilbert Snowdon. She was the wife for over 50 years of the late Tommy Logue. She worked for William F. Myers in the meat packing plant and she was a homemaker. She was a member of Locust Grove Church of the Brethren in Mount Airy. Survivors besides her mother include a son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Sharon Logue of New Windsor, 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren . She was predeceased by a son, Wayne Logue. Corwin, Jr., 63, of Mount Airy died May 13,2003, at his home. Born April 16, 1940, in Randallstown, he was the son of the late Evelyn B. and Myland M. Corwin, Sr. A graduate of Milford Mill High School, Mr. Corwin was in the U. S Air Force from 1959 to 1967. He was a retiree of IBM. He was a member of Unity Church in Frederick and the non-profit Building Supply of Frederick. He enjoyed bike riding, woodworking, cooking and singing at Lorien Nursing Home. Survivors include his daughter, Shirley L. Wolf of Martinsburg, W.Va.; a son, Myland M. Corwin III of New Windsor, 3 sisters, Evelyn Poa of Wisconsin, Linda Neal of Randallstown and Susan Chies of Glen Burnie; a brother, Richard Corwin of Salisbury, 7 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and 13 nieces and nephews. He was the husband of Ruth A. Burrows Connelly of Mount Airy. He was born September 19, 1921, near Rockville, Maryland, the son of the late Spencer I. Connelly and the late Nina V. Grimes Connelly. He was a self-employed brick mason. He was P.U.F.L. member of American Legion Post #191 in Mount Airy. He was a member of the 7th Airborne Association. He served in they Army during WWII and Korea, where he was Sergeant First Class parachute trooper. He was the father of daughter and son-in-law; Debra L. and G. Raymond Herche, and son, Glenn A. Connelly, all of Mt. Airy, Maryland; brother of Gene A. Connelly and wife Mary of Petersburg. Pennsylvania. He is also survived by grandsons, Bryan Herche, Zachary Connelly and Matthew Connelly, all of Mt. Airy; and many nieces and nephews. Born July 29, 1933 in Maryland, he was the son of the late Floyd and Ethel Teal Redmond. He was the husband of Mary Agnes Redmond of Westminster. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a heavy equipment operator with White Pine Construction. Schreyer, age 82, of Sykesville, died on Friday, May 23, 2003, at the home of her daughter. Born on March 30, 1921, in Bianca Villa, Sicily, she was the daughter of the late Antonino and Giovannina Torcetta Torcisi. She was predeceased by husbands, William Heimer and Charles Schreyer. She had been a businesswoman for several years in addition to being a homemaker. She is survived by sons, Michael Heimer of Leonardtown, Fritz Heimer of Sykesville and Frank Heimer of Taylorsville; daughter, Frances Cotter of Sykesville; brother, Frank Torcisi of Laurel and sisters, Vivian Marchetti of Burke, Va., and Mary Sperrazzo of San Diego, Cal. LaVerne Neal LaVerne Harvey Neal, 68, of Damascus died Saturday, May 24, 2003, at Montgomery General Hospital. He was the husband of Mary Delores Bell Neal, his wife of 44 years. Born April 27th, 1935 in Gaithersburg, he was the son of Nannie Hazel Harmon Neal of Rockville and the late Jessie Bogel Neal. Mr. Neal retired in 1993, due to failing health, after 25 years as a welder for the Montgomery County Public Schools . He also worked for Lofstrand Company and Washington Technology Association. He was a member of Damascus United Methodist Church. He was also a veteran of the United States Army, serving from 1957-1959. Mr. Neal enjoyed going to flea markets, feeding birds, collecting Beanie Babies and having coffee with friends at the Four Seasons Restaurant in Mount Airy. He enjoyed having lunch at J & P's Restaurant in Mount Airy, and he and his wife were Francis Scott Key mall walkers for eight years. Mr. Neal was an avid Redskins fan. In addition to his wife and mother, Mr. Neal is survived by one daughter, LaVon Kay Neal of Mount Airy; one sister, Othella E. Butt of Rockville; one brother, Hugh Garland Neal and wife Peggy of Rockville; and sisters and brothers-in-law, B. Rosalyn Bowman of Damascus, John W. Bell and wife Carol of Frederick, Donald W. Bell and wife Carolyn of Woodsboro, Richard G. Hines and wife Bev of Florida; and many nieces and nephews, includng his nephew, Tommy Butt. He will also be remembered by special friends, Linda and Kelly Reed, and Coy and Sandy Lanning. He was preceded in death by one brother, Jessie B. Neal, Jr.; one sister, Ophelia D.
