She was the wife of Bruce Hunt Avery, Sr. of Mount Airy. She was born September 13, 1926, in Scranton, Pa., the daughter of the late Marshall and late Elizabeth Brooks Greer. Mrs. Avery was a retired physcotherapist and owmed Raccoon Ridge Farm where she and her husband raised llamas. Surviving, besides her husband, are children, Frederick Richards of Trumbull, Conn., Christopher Richards of Falmouth, Mass., Elly Richards of Taos, N.M; step-children, Lorraine Dammen and Jennifer Avery, both of Norwalk, Conn., and Bruce Avery, Jr. of New London, Conn.; 5 grandchildren, Matthew, Gracie, Michael and Brooke Richards and Austin Everett. Carlin, Jr., William Joseph Carlin, Jr., 63, of Ellicott City, died on Saturday, June 28, 2003, in Waynesboro, Pa. Born on July 1, 1939, in Baltimore, he was the son of Anna Leppert Carlin of Catonsville and the late William J. Carlin, Sr. He was the husband of Sheila Lowry Carlin of Ellicott City. He had been a self employed contractor. He had served as a Lance Corporal in the US Marine Corp. His primary love was spending time with his family. He enjoyed travel, woodworking and local history. Surviving in addition to his wife and mother are son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Sara Carlin of Ashburn, Va.; daughters and sons-in-law, Pamela and Jim Niessner of Hagerstown and Vicki and Tim Lowe of Eldersburg; a brother, Jerome Carlin of Ellicott City; and grandchildren, Scott, Julie, Kelly and Kristen Lowe, Daney Carlin and Eva, Maxwell and Kurt Niessner. Stella Dye Stella Dye, 92, of Woodbine, Md., died Friday, June 27, 2003, at Northwest Hospital Center, Randallstown, Md. She was born September 14, 1910, in Kingston, Raleigh County, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Silas I. and Margaret Cullop Dye. Ms. Dye was a homemaker. She is survived by a sister, Virginia Rowland; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her children, LeFaine Pipes and Robert Pipes; and a two brothers, King Dye and Bryson Dye. Green, Anthony Joseph Green, 21, of Sykesville, died suddenly on June 27, 2003. Born on August 18, 1981, in Howard County, Md., he was the son of Eugene J. and Marie L. Hoffman Green of Sykesville. He had been working in electronics sales for Toys R Us in Catonsville. He was a 1999 graduate of Liberty High School and a current student at Carroll Community College. Surviving in addition to his parents are a brother, Chris N. Green of Sykesville and a sister, Alicia Green of Sykesville. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles and cousins. Leslie Pahl Jr. Leslie Charles Pahl, Jr., 48, of Granite, died Monday, June 30, 2003, at Gilchrist Center in Towson. He was the husband of Pamela A. Boyle Pahl of Granite. He was born February 22, 1955, in Baltimore, the son of Leslie Charles Pahl, Sr. and Mary Jane Cunningham Pahl. He was a vegetable farmer. Barth Eugene Earl "Gene" Barth, 55, of Sykesville, died suddenly on Thursday, July 3, 2003, at the University of MD Shock Trauma Center. Born on August 24, 1947, in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the son of Joyce A. Funk Barth of Ellicott City and the late Earl Edwin Barth. He was the husband of Wanda Marie Linthicum Barth of Sykesville. Gene had been a printing supervisor for the University of Maryland, College Park, Physics Department. He had attended the Friendship Baptist Church. He was a master outdoorsman. Gene had served in the Army National Guard as a sergeant for 6 years from 1966-1972. He had served as the coordinator for the Hunter Safety for many years and had been very involved in the Youth Hunter Education Challenge. He was inducted into the Hunter Safety Hall of Fame. He had been an avid baseball player in previous years. Gene was a member of the National Muzzle loading Rifle Association and a member of Crowbusters. He was a living history re-enactor. Surviving, in addition to his wife and mother, are son and his partner, Jason M. Barth and Thomas D. Frogh of Columbia; daughter and son-in-law, Julie Barth Kacergis and Michael Kacergis of Eldersburg and daughter and her partner, Katie Ellen Barth and Lisa Simmons of Towson; brother and sister-in-law, Terry E. and Marcia Barth of Westminster; nephews, Christopher Scott Barth and Brian Edwin Barth and his wife Brandi Lynn Barth and great-nephew: Hunter Edwin Barth. Bercik, 91, of Eldersburg, died on Monday, June 30, 2003, at the Howard County General Hospital, Columbia, Md. Born on May 9, 1912, in Waynesburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Carmine and Frances Rizzo Mancuso. She was the wife of the late George William Bercik who died in 1978. She had been a homemaker for most of her life. She grew up in Waynesburg, Pa. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Georgiann M. and Richard A. Bankert of Sykesville; granddaughter, Paige Alissa Bankert of Sykesville and numerous nieces and nephews. She was the last of eight siblings. Born on September 20, 1926, in Monti di Villa, Italy, he was the son of the late Ettore and Santina Lena Campini. He grew up in Italy and moved to the United States in 1955. He had worked as an electrical engineer. He is survived by sons, Edoardo Campini of Mesa, Arizona, and Angelo Campini of Frederick; daughters, Jonita Pant of Salisbury, Md., and Marlene Campini of Ellicott City; and sisters, Nanda Lucchesi and Iria Meloni both of Lucca, Italy. Born on May 6, 1921, in Creemore, Ontario, Canada, she was the daughter of the late John and Meryl Jardine Coates. She was the wife of the late Stanley J. Longford who died in 1986. She had taught elementary school in Carroll County for many years. She had taught early in her career at Mechanicsville Elementary School and for most of her career until retirement at Freedom Elementary School. She was a graduate of Toronto Normal School and Towson State College. She was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Community for over 50 years where she had served as both a Eucharistic Minister and Reader. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy M. Longford of Eldersburg and son and daughter-in-law, Robert C., III and Jeanne Longford of Ellicott City; sister, Jacqueline Skubay of Calgary, Alberta, Canada and granddaughters, Kimberly and Susan. She was predeceased by her brother, John Coates. A Mass of Resurrection was celebrated at July 5 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Eldersburg. Interment is in New Cathedral Cemetery. Lawrence Paul Prodoehl Lawrence Paul Prodoehl, 50 ,of Westminster, formerly of Randallstown, died Sunday, July 6, 2003, at Bay View Medical Center in Baltimore. He was the husband of Susan K. Miller Prodoehl. He was born May 15, 1953, in Baltimore, the son of the late Mary Carroll Katzenberger Weingarten and raised by his father, the late Henry W. Prodoehl, and his wife, Patricia Prodoehl Spencer of Randallstown. Mr. Prodoehl was a senior claims supervisor for Zurich of North America. He enjoyed scuba and sky diving and was a licensed pilot, an avid Baltimore Ravens fan and tailgater, and he loved to travel. Surviving besides his wife and mother are a daughter, Lauren Nicole Prodoehl of Westminster; two sisters, Dr. R. Theresa Prodoehl of Harrisonburg, Va., and Judith A.P. Born September 3, 1943, in Jelgava, Latvia, he was the son of the late Janis Teodors and the late Erna Reinvalds Skuja. Mr. Skuja served in the U.S. Army from 1961-1964 and was a member of the National Guard from 1965 to 1971. He earned his bachelor's degree from The University of Baltimore in 1972. He was a member of the Latvian fraternal organization, Tervetia. He was a retired employee of Verizon. In addition to his wife and her daughter Wendy Spratt, he is survived by a brother, Dr. Andris Skuja of Oakland, Cal.; a sister, Laima Skuja of Fort Collins, Col.; nephews, Kalvis Kraemer, Teodors Skuja and Lukas Skuja, niece, Ligita Kraemer; and aunt, Meta Skuja of Latvia. She was a beautician and worked as sales associate for 8 years at Hochschild- Kohn in Baltimore, before becoming a homemaker. She loved gardening She was the wife of the late Harold J. Lobb. She was the wife of Larry Eugene Mundy, Sr. She was born June 30, 1939, in Baltimore, the daughter of Thelma Mauck Spurrier and step-father Wilber Spurrier. Mrs. Mundy was the corporate secretary for Mt. Airy Cold Storage for over 30 years. She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church . She enjoyed reading and doing needlework and she liked taking trips to their home in Ocean Pines. Surviving besides her husband are a son, Larry E. Born August 10, 1924 in Warrenton, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Loma Weadon. Mrs. Darby was a homemaker and a member of the Methodist Church, the Dollogy Club in Washington, D.C., the United Federation of Doll Clubs, the Sugarloaf Mountain Region Antique Automobile Club of America, and the Heart of Maryland Model T Ford Club. Surviving besides her husband are three sons: Charles S. Darby of Clarksburg, Alan H. Darby of Washington, D.C., and Glen L. Demetriou Colin Andrew Demetriou, 20. of Westminster died Thursday, July 17, 2003, in Mount Airy of injuries received in an automobile accident. He was born May 8, 1983, in Manchester, Md., the son of the late Susan Rich Chase of Westminster and Philip Demetriou of Baltimore. He worked as a carpenter for Tradesman International, but his real love was working with animals, especially reptiles. Surviving in addition to his father are grandparents, Michael and Betty Demetriou of England and grandmother Betty L. Rich of Eldersburg; his brother, Ian M. Demetriou of Baltimore; and his aunt and uncle, Dean and Christine Boyden of Taylorsville with whom he lived. Born July 6, 1919, in Woodbine, he was the son of the late Vernie and Elizabeth Lewis Fleming. He was retired from Springfield State Hospital having worked as a cashier. Prior to that he had worked on the family farm. He was a member of Gaither United Methodist Church. He is survived by his brother, Herman Fleming of Westminster, and numerous nieces and nephews. "Butch" Fritz, 59, of Damascus died on Monday, July 21, 2003, at Montgomery General Hospital. He was the husband of Louise B. Fritz. Born in Frederick on January 13, 1944, he was the son of Alvin L. Poole of Frederick and the late Rhoda Ellen Crummit. Mr. Fritz was the owner of the Olde Towne Restaurant and Catering in Mount Airy for the past eight years. Before that, he worked for Tom and Ray's restaurant in Damascus for 13 years. Mayne, 87, of Mount Airy died on Sunday, July 20, 2003, at her home. She was the wife of the late Ralph Mayne. Born on May 13, 1916, in Montgomery County, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Mary Butt. Surviving are children, Earl Edward Bolton, Jr. and wife Ella Mae of Damascus, Ellen Cox and her husband James of Germantown, Margaret Blanton and her husband Vance of Mount Airy, Ralph Edward Mayne and his wife Ina of Mount Airy, Betty Jane Stone and her husband Calvin of Frederick, Karen Delph and her husband Frank of Mount Airy; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is remembered by special friends, Jenny Bruchie, Darlene McGreevy, and Kim Stillions. Two children, Dorothy Russ and Kenneth Bolton, preceded Mrs. Mayne in death. Murphy, a longtime resident of Mount Airy, passed away Monday, July 1, 2003, of congestive heart failure. Mr. Murphy was born October 29, 1922, in Helena, Montana. He joined the United States Air Force after WWII. After his discharge, he relocated to the Washington, D.C. area where he managed prominent restaurants. He was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in Damascus, where a memorial service will be held at a later date. He is survived by his children, Helena Adami, Barbara Murphy, Allen Peake, Millard Peake and Nancy Bullock; and his sister, Lois Stockwell. Frances Pickett Frances Lusetta Moxley Pickett, 86, of Mount Airy, died Monday, July 21, 2003, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of James Ernest Pickett. Mrs. Pickett was born December 4, 1916, in Linganore, Frederick County, the daughter of the late Jessie Herman and Mary Condon Moxley. She was retired from the National Institute of Health after 20 years of Service as a secretary. She was founder and leader for over 25 years of the Prospect 4-H Club and secretary for Mt. Airy Community Reporter newspaper, She was a MYF counselor at West Falls Church and past president of Frederick County Homemakers. She enjoyed bowling, quilting, baking and was a good cook and seamstress. Survivors besides her husband include 2 daughters, Janet L.Barnes of Winfield, Joyce L. Gardner and her husband Richard, Sr. of Dillsburg, Pa.; 2 sisters, Arlene Tressler of Frederick and Meredith Moxley of Thurmont; and 7 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson. She was preceeded in death by her former husband Foard E. Hood; her son-in-law James L. Barnes; brothers, Wilber, Mervin and Herbert Moxley and her sister, Mary C. Snyder. Funeral Services will be conducted Friday at 10 a.m. at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home, 1212 West Old Liberty Rd. Winfield, MD (beside S. Carroll High School) with the Rev. Stephen White.
