Olivet, Pa., he was the son of the late Earle Topley and Rosalie Exline Andrews. He was the husband of the late Donna Everett Andrews. He had worked as a general plant manager in Sand Mining. He had served in the US Air Force. He is survived by daughters, Cindalee Andrews Notich of Sykesville and Dawn Elizabeth Crouse of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; brother, Hale Andrews of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; sister, Patricia Andrews Middlekauff of Berkeley Springs; grandchildren, Kimberly E. and Timothy A. Behring, 80, of Mount Airy, died on Tuesday, Sept, 2, 2003, at the Pleasant View Nursing Home, Mount Airy. Born on December 20, 1922, in San Francisco, Cal., she was the daughter of the late Louis and Edna Lucille Fulcher Knauss. She was the wife of the late Paul M. Behring, Jr. She had worked for the former Carroll Chemical Company Packaging. She had been a courthouse elevator operator years ago. Mrs. Behring had been a former usherette at the Mayfair Hippodrome in Baltimore. She had spent many years at the Springfield Hospital Center and for the past few years, resided at Pleasant View Nursing Home, Moun t Airy. Clarence Willie Crenshaw Clarence Willie Crenshaw, 79, of Catonsville, died on Monday, August 25, 2003, at his home. Born on January 30, 1924, in Sykesville, he was the son of the late Clarence A. and May Florence Snowden Crenshaw. He was the husband of the late Julia Crenshaw who died in 1996. He is survived by brother Cecil Crenshaw of Columbia, and sisters, Ernestine A. Taylor of Eldersburg and Dezzie Robinson of Baltimore. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Walker Gordon Henry Walker, 94, of Eldersburg, formerly of York, Pa., died on Saturday, August 30, 2003, at the Carroll County General Hospital, Westminster. Born on March 25, 1909, in York, Pa., he was the son of the late Theophilus and Laura Toomey Walker. He was the husband of Josephine Rebecca Hubley Walker of Eldersburg. Mr. Walker had retired as a chief electrician for the Voith Hydrolic Company of York, Pa., formerly known as Allis Chalmers and the S. Morgan Smith Companies. He was a graduate of York High School. He and his wife moved to the Eldersburg, area about 16 years ago from York. Surviving in addition to his wife are daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie W. and William Kane, Jr. of Eldersburg; and grandson and his wife, William W., III and Maria Kane of Westminster. He was predeceased by a sister, Marguerite Smith. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. today at the Haight Funeral Home & Chapel (6416 Sykesville Rd) Sykesville. Sarah Jane Webb Sarah Jane Webb, 67, of Mount Airy died Monday, Sept. 1, 2003, at her residence. She was the wife of the late Robert R. Webb who died in 1994. Born August 8, 1936, in Baltimore she was the daughter of the late Gus and Elizabeth Auten Geilfuss. Mrs. Webb was a medical secretary for Dr. Neal I. Aronson in Pikesville for 17 years. She enjoyed quilting, gardening and spending time with her dogs. Surviving are six children, Laura E. Stansbury and husband Richard of Mount Airy, William M. Webb and wife Sue of Chicago, Robert S. Webb of Pennsylvania, Clay Lau and wife Debbie of Mount Airy, Ross Lau and wife Sue Ellen of Eldersburg, and Jay Lau of Hanover, Md.; 9 grandchildren, Ethan and Allison Stansbury, and Julianne, Elizabeth, Jeffrey, Melinda, Matthew, Alexander and Jennifer Lau. Bacon Charles Walter Bacon, 85, of Eldersburg, died September 5, 2003, at Sinai Hospital. He was born on August 4, 1918, in Baltimore to Walter Edward and Bessie Starr Bacon. In 1948, he married Eleanor Stock Stratten. He was in the US Army during WW II and served 27 months in the China, Burma, India Theater of War. He last worked for Lumber Terminals, Inc. at Dundalk Marine Terminal, retiring in 1980. He enjoyed soaring, Nascar, the mountains of North Carolina, building model airplanes, growing tomatoes and speckled swan gourds, his backyard birds and butterflies and everybody's pets, but most of all his dear grandson, Kyle. Surviving, in addition to his wife are son, Jeffrey and daughter-in-law, Melissa of Snow Hill, son Stephan and daughter-in-law Teresa and grandson Kyle of Gamber; sister, Jane Seals and her husband George of Glen Alpine, N.C.; brother, Walter E. J. Carolyn Dillman Mrs. J. Carolyn Dillman, 70, of Mount Airy, formerly of Highland, died Tuesday, September 2, 2003. She was the wife of the late Carl Ralph Dillman, who died in 1977. Born September 19, 1932, in Sommerset County, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Clifford and Nell Kaese Friend. Mrs. Dillman taught at Mount Airy high School beginning in the 1950s, and went onto a career in real estate in Howard County working for a number of realtors during the 1970s and 80s. In the mid 1980s she, along with a partner, opened a store and pharmacy, Notions and Potions, in Clarksville. Mrs. Dillman was also a volunteer patient advocate at Brooke Grove Nursing Home in Olney, and a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Fulton for more than 45 years. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren and attended all of their sporting events. Surviving are 4 children, Laura A. Dillman of Columbia, Carl I. Dillman of Sudlersville, Amy L. Lane and husband David of Mount Airy, and R. Kaese Dillman and wife Valorie of Berkley Springs, W.Va.; 3 grandchildren, Jessica A. Lane, D. Adam Lane, and Michael V.Dillman; a sister, Dr. Louise Friend of Carmel, Calif., and a brother, Clifford Friend and wife Zelma of Tehachapi, Calif., as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She will also be remembered by her long time friend and companion, Horst Wolter of Mount Airy. Mrs. Dillman was preceded in death by a half brother, William Friend. Shane Evans Shane Evans, 34, of Sykesville, died Friday, September 5, 2003, at University of Maryland Shock Trauma due to injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. Born December 15, 1968, in Maryland, he was the son of Michael R. and Theresa M. Leonard Evans of Sykesville. He was the husband of Cathy Carpenter Evans of Sykesville, his wife of 10 years. He was a 1986 graduate of Liberty High School. He was a police officer with the City of Annapolis Police and had previously been with the Howard County Police. He enjoyed hunting. Surviving in addition to his wife and parents are son, Cody J. Evans of Sykesvillep; daughter, Sara C. She was the wife of Robert Louis Kane of Mount Airy formerly of Catonsville. She was born October 30, 1930, in Baltimore, the daughter of the late Stephen George and Mary Frances Elsner Vencle. Mrs. Kane was a homemaker, an avid Orioles fan and season ticket holder since 1949. She enjoyed bowling in the Westview Ladies Tuesday Morning Bowling league for several years. She also loved spending time with her grandchildren and gardening. Born Sept. 23, 1926, in Sneedville, Tennessee, he was the son of the late James and Alpha Perry Wilder. He served for four years in the U.S. Army and for five years in the Merchant Marines. He was a veteran of WWII. He had been a mason with Stresscon Industries. He was a member of the Bricklayer and Allied Craftsmen Local 1 of Maryland. He was also a member of the VFW in Ellicott City. She had been a homemaker, teacher and bus driver for many years. She had received an A.A. degree from Carroll Community College. He was the husband of the late Margaret Kuhn who died in 1992. Frank had most recently worked at the Martin's Grocery Store, Eldersburg. He had retired as a material handler from General Motors. He had served in the US Army as a Staff Sergeant during WWII. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart and a life member of Dundalk VFW, Post #6694. Rosier Charles Roland "Bay" Rosier, 79, of Gaither, died on Saturday, September 13, 2003, at the Carroll Lutheran Village, Westminster. Born on July 9, 1924, in Maryland, he was the son of the late Clarence C. and Nellie M. Hanna Rosier. He was the husband of the late Effie Elizabeth Rosier who died Dec. 29, 1999. Charles was a retired chauffeur from Springfield Hospital Center after 33 years. He was a Life Member of Sykesville-Freedom District Volunteer Fire Department with over 50 years of service. He had served in the US Army from 1948-49. He enjoyed raising a vegetable garden. He is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Charles E. and Pauline Rosier of Sykesville; daughter and son-in-law, Norma J. and Tim Ferguson of Sykesville; daughters, Marjorie R. Robert Hancock Robert Dean Hancock, 27, of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, died Sept 17, 2003, at Kootenai Medical Center, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Born June 2, 1976, in Lander, Wyoming, he was the son of Joseph Hancock and Catherine Hancock McDonald of Eldersburg. He was the husband of Leaha Hancock of Coeur d'Alene, He attended North Idaho College and received his R.N degree in 2003 and was working at the Kootenai Medical Center. Mr Hancock joined the Army Reserves in 1995 and was called to active duty and served a nine-month tour in Bosnia with the United Nations peacekeeping mission, "Joint Endeavor." He loved to hunt, fish, and play cards. Besides his wife and parents, he is survived by a sister, Patricia McDonald of Eldersburg; grandmother, Joan Newby of Bowie, Md.; three aunts, Ann Williams of Eldersburg, Joan Horstkamp of Owings, Cathy Figuration of Brandywine, Md. and an uncle, Michael Newby of Bowie. Born September 11, 1948, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late William Seiser. She was the wife of Stanley A. Mertz Jr. of Sykesville. She was retired from the Carroll County Board of Education where she had been a secretary with Mount Airy Middle School for many years. Surviving in addition to her husband are sons Stanley A. Mertz III of Hanover, Pa. and Kevin W. Mertz of Sykesville, and grandchildren Emily A. and Jacob S. Mertz. Funeral services were held on Sept. 23 at Haight Funeral Home and Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville, with Pastor Richard Fenton officiating. Shimer Derrick Matthew Shimer, 23, of Eldersburg, died suddenly on Sunday, Sept. 21, 2003 at the St. Agnes Hospital, Baltimore. Born on July 8, 1980, in Baltimore, he was the son of the Robert Christopher Shimer and step-mother Bobbie Fine Shimer of Columbia and mother Brenda Lee Crawford Shimer and her fiancé, David Brian Bonsal of Eldersburg. Derrick was a 1998 graduate of Lansdowne High School. He enjoyed sports, going to Ravens games and watching basketball. He had been a waiter at the Chop House Restaurant, Eldersburg. Surviving in addition to his parents are brother C. Cory Shimer of Eldersburg; step-sisters, Pamela Glick of Columbia and Jennifer Glick of Fallston, Md., and paternal-grandmother, Joann Shimer of Westernport, Md. Guy Simmons, Jr. Guy LeRoy Simmons, Jr., 79, of Eldersburg, died Wednesday, September 17, 2003, at his home from an extended illness. Born July 13, 1924, in Virginia he was the son of the late Guy L., Sr. and Vivian Ballard Simmons. He was the husband of Gertrude E. Zartler Simmons of Eldersburg. They had been married since 1980. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II having received the Purple Heart. He was a retired marketing representative for Westinghouse. He enjoyed fishing in Ocean City. In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughter Diane L. Simmons of Ocean Pines, son and daughter-in-law Mark R. and Kathleen Simmons of Lutherville, brother Col. Bland B. Simmons of Mississippi and granddaughters, Meghan, Kathryn and Colleen Simmons of Lutherville. "Dolly" Stanton, 58, of Woodbine, died on Friday, Sept. 19, 2003, at her home. Born on July 1, 1945, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Richard W. and Nellie Frances Rippeon Green. She was married to her husband, William T. Stanton on Sept. 12, 1964. She had been a homemaker for most of her life. Surviving in addition to her husband are daughters and sons-in-law, Holly Theresa and Kevin Harbula of Elkridge, Robin Marie and Butch R. Arnold of New Windsor; daughter Julie Ann Stanton of Woodbine and granddaughters, Lori and Jessica Cass and Elizabeth Lyn Arnold.
