Cazzola Allingham, his wife of 32 years. Born on February 16, 1948, in Glendale, California, he was the son of John and Patricia Clarke Allingham of Chevy Chase. He was a machinist for the U.S. Government, retiring in 2001 after 25 years service. Mr. Allingham served in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the Brass Anchor SCUBA Club in Frederick, a sharpshooter with the Isaac Walton League and a life member of the NRA. Mr. Allingham was an outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing and was a master scuba diver. He was also an accomplished woodworker and could build almost anything. Mr. Allingham was a Washington Redskin fan. Surviving in addition to his wife and parents arc a son, Nicholas S. Allingham of Mount Airy; a sister, Shiela Bushnell and husband Ron of Germantown and a number of nieces end nephews. The family received friends from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. on Friday. She was born in Hillsboro, N.C. on April 2, 1917, the daughter of the late Julian Blackwood and the late Nona Brockwell Blackwood. She was a glazer production worker for Locke Insulated Company, a division of GE. She was a member of Bethesda U.M. Church in Sykesville. Linda Lovell Linda Arlene, Lovell of Tampa, Fla., 55, died Tuesday, November 25, 2003. Born July 30, 1949, in Frederick County, she was the daughter of the late L. Albert and the late Bertha E. Harrison Horton. A graduate of Linganore High School, she resided in Tampa for 15 years. She was a retail manager for T.J. Max and a member of Linganore United Methodist Church, Unionville. She is survived by her husband, Gary Lovell of Tampa, Fla.; two sons, Greg Lovell of Brandon, Fla. and Brian Lovell of San Diego, Calif.; sister, Jenny Rhoderick of Mount Airy; and three grandchildren. Rothgaber Martha Ruth Rothgaber, 91, of Eldersburg, died Saturday, November 29, 2003, at Genesis Health Care, Randallstown. Born April 4, 1912, in Johnson City, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late Oscar J. and Nancy C. Swift Prather. She was the wife of the late Laurence Rothgaber. She had been employed at a weaving mill. Surviving are daughters Karen Chase of Havre de Grace, Eileen Derry of White Marsh and Laurel Diliberti of Pickerington, Ohio; sons Richard E. Glenn of Lancaster, Pa. and David Rothgaber of Longboat Key, Florida; sister Josie Nelson of Danville, Va., 17 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. Interment in Evergreen Memorial Gardens, Finksburg. Mary I. Schmidt Mary I. Schmidt, 59, of Mount Airy, died Sunday, November 30, 2003, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of Alfred M. Schmidt, her husband of 28 years. Born May 5, 1944, in Baltimore County, she was the daughter of the late James and Frances Evans Esworthy. Mrs. Schmidt was a seamstress, working at the Mount Airy Shirt Factory and for West Knit in Westminster. She also had worked for both Ames and Pizza Hut in Mount Airy. Mrs. Schmidt was a member of American Legion Auxiliary Unit 191 in Mount Airy where she was a past president, past Western Maryland District President and past Department of Maryland President. She also served as counselor for Girls State for three years. Mrs. Schmidt enjoyed making crafts, especially sewing, and loved spending time with her beloved dogs: bulldogs, Buttons and Zipper, and Yorkies, T.T. and Peaches Surviving in addition to her husband are five brothers and sisters, Lee Esworthy and wife Linda of Westminster, Margaret McCarthy and husband Thomas of Boring, George Esworthy and wife Charlotte of Westminster, James Esworthy, Jr. and wife Debra of Cockeysville and Brenda Hale and husband David of Reisterstown; nine nieces and nephews, 16 great nieces and nephews; a sister-in- law, Rosalie Robbins of Blairsville, Georgia; and a brother-in-law Roland Schmidt and wife Patricia of Mount Airy. Carson Robert Mark Carson, 40, of Sykesville, died Wednesday, December 3, 2003, due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Born August 29, 1963, in Maryland, he was the son of George and Elizabeth W. Fletcher Carson of Sykesville. He was a 1982 graduate of Atholton High School. He had been employed as a cashier in the drive-thru at McDonald's in Eldersburg for the past 9 years. He had previously worked at the Burtonsville McDonald's for 11 years. Howard, 75, of New Windsor, died on Sunday, Dec. 7, 2003, at Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster. Born March 13, 1925, in Rockville, he was a son of the late Clarence and Virgie Rickets Howard. He was the husband of Geneva M. Howard. Mr. Howard had attended Richard Montgomery High School in Rockville. He served in the U.S. Army as a Staff Sergeant during World War Two. In 1946, he went to work for PEPCO and retired after 42 years of service as a general foreman. After retirement from PEPCO, he drove a school bus for Carroll County schools until he retired because of ill health. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in New Windsor. Besides his wife, he is survived by two children, Sharon L. Nelligan of New Windsor and Earl H. Howard, Jr. of Frederick; six grandchildren, Lori Sue Castillo of Walkersville, Jami Rae Howard of Frederick, Jena Griffin of Frederick, Rachel Erin Nelligan of New Windsor, Kara Lynn Howard of Frederick, and Austin Howard Nelligan of New Windsor; a sister, Mildred Collins of Hagerstown; and also nieces and a nephew and four great grandchildren. Hutchinson John Henry Hutchinson, 66, of Sykesville, died on Saturday, December 6, 2003, at Continuum Care, Sykesville, after an extended illness. He was born on Sept. 29, 1937, in Washington, D.C., the son of the late Henry Hawkins and Carol Lynne Upp Hutchinson. He was the husband of 40 years of Linda Hale Hutchinson. After graduating from Montgomery Blair High School, John's love for flowers enticed him to apply at Clarks Flowers in Silver Spring, Md. His first job was selling Christmas trees then working in the flower shop for the following seasons. He later worked at Blackistone Florists in Washington, D.C. and Gustin Gardens and continued his education and graduated from Frick's School of Floral Design. John decided to relocate to Don Flowers Florist in Randallstown and was employed in their shops as manager and designer for nine years. During these years John continues his education through FTD seminars in Business Management and Design, eventually to become an instructor. John's involvement in FTD District 6J included chairman of many committees and he moved through the chairs to become president twice over the years. On April 25, 1980, John, and his wife Linda established Hutchinson's Flowers in Eldersburg. John was appointed to the advisory committee and the National Board of FTD. As a member of the Society of American Florists, John served on the design team on the inauguration of Bush/Quayle and Clinton/Gore. John's love for flowers has touched the lives of many, not just through his community but throughout his family. John had served in the US Navy from 1956-58. He was a member of the Freedom Optimist Club for 21 years and served as president from 1988-89. Surviving in addition to his wife, are daughters and sons-in-law, Anne Marie and Tom Howes and Suzette Lynne and Tim Arrington, all of Sykesville; sister and brother-in-law Patricia and Willie Lambert of Frederick; grandsons, Trey and Justin A. She was born November 27, 1920, in San Francisco, California, a daughter of the late William and Margaret Niland Strachan. Mrs. Singer was a homemaker and adoring mother. She was a devout Roman Catholic and a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Damascus. She was a volunteer for Hospice of Montgomery County and at St. Patrick's of Rockville. Her beautiful face always glowed with love and caring for all who knew her. "Mom truly loved everyone. She greeted people with such kindness and had the utmost compassion for anyone in need, or who was in bad health. He was the husband of 55 years of Fannie Mable Young Anderson. Mr. Anderson was born April 30, 1924, in Arbutus, Md., the son of the late Aleck and Bertha Feurherd Anderson. Mr. Anderson co-owned and operated a service station in the Ridgeville area for a number of years. He was retired from King Pontiac Garage in Gaithersburg. He was a member of Poplar Springs United Methodist Church , Prudence Lodge #190 A.F. & A.M. in Mount Airy, Maryland Salt Water Fisherman's Association and a former member of the Mount Airy Chapter #95 Order of the Eastern Star. Mr. Anderson was also an avid hunter and fisherman. Surviving besides his wife are sons Larry W. and wife Charlene Anderson of Monrovia and Fred A. and wife Karen Anderson of Monrovia; brother Aleck Anderson, Jr. of Littlestown, Pa.; sisters, Irma Anderson and Nettie Potts, both of Hagerstown; grandchildren, Richard, Daniel, and Amanda Anderson, all of Monrovia; and numerous nieces and nephews. Arthur E. Colvin Sr. Arthur E. Colvin Sr., 83, of Maurertown, Va., formerly of Rockville, died Dec. 14, 2003, in Martinsburg (W.Va.) Veterans Hospital. Born in 1920, he was the son of the late Lester Oman Colvin and Sally Francis Carpenter Colvin. Mr. Colvin served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a retired construction superintendent. Survivors include two daughters, Sally K. Colvin of Rockville and Cindy L. Colvin of Dustin, Fla.; four sons, Arthur E. Colvin Jr., George D. Colvin and David R. Colvin, all of Mount Airy, and Robert O. Calvin of Virginia Beach; one sister, Odie Jenkins of Alexandria; and 11 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ernest Colvin and Lelan Colvin, and a sister, Virginia "Jenny" Nelson Colvin. Catherine Grace Catherine Mary Grace, 85, of Halethorpe, Md., died Wednesday, December 10, 2003, at Carroll Hospital Center. She was the wife of the late George J. Grace, Sr. She was born August 4, 1918 in Baltimore, the daughter of the late William and late Mary Falter Young. Mrs. Grace was a supervisor for what was formerly known as C & P Telephone, which is now Verizon. She was a member of St. Clemant Roman Catholic Church and the church's Sodality. Mrs. Grace was a member of the over 50 club and loved to cook. She is survived by daughter Margaret Dimond of Westminster and son and daughter-in-law George "Bud" J. Grace, Jr. and Maria Grace of Westminster; stepsisters, Betty Young and Anne Nelson; grandchildren, Meaghan Dimond, Amanda, Julie and Alex Grace and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her companion Morton Londer of Halethorpe. She was preceded in death by stepbrothers William and Jack Young. Arrangements were made by Burrier-Queen Funeral Home, Winfield. John Rooney Colonel John Joseph Rooney 76, died Wednesday, December 10, 2003, at his home in Gaithersburg. He was the husband of Keiko Onodera Rooney. Born March 22, 1927, in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, he was a son of the late Charles J. and Margaret Timothy Rooney. At age 17 Col. Rooney joined the Army Air Corp and continued his service until the end of World War II. At this point he re-enlisted in the regular Army and served honorably until his retirement in 1971. While in the Army he earned his B.A. degree at the University of Pittsburgh in 1951. He earned citations for serving on the Army General Staff in 1968, and was awarded the Legion of Merit by the President of the United States for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding service from 1952-1970. In 1971 the Rooney Family moved to Gaithersburg. Colonel Rooney was hired, by the Montgomery County Government to run the M.I.S. Section. While employed by the county he began teaching at American University. In 1984 he became a full time professor at American University and Johns Hopkins University. Colonel Rooney was also selected as a voluntary consultant for the Frederick County Government. Colonel Rooney's passion outside of work was golf. He was a member of the Montgomery Village Country Club, Oneonta Country Club and Holly Hills Country Club where he was instrumental in starting up a volunteer staff of Marshals for the Kemper Open Golf Tournament. Surviving besides his wife are three children, Patrick Rooney and his wife Kathleen of Germantown; Ruth Hopkins and her husband Gary of Monrovia and Kathleen Greene and husband Johnathan of Gaithersburg; six grandchildren, Brendan, Erinn, Rachel, Emily, Melissa and Michael; four sisters and one brother. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Dec. 15 at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, Libertytown, with the Reverend John A. Dietzenbach officiating. Born on January 20, 1917, in San Antonio, Texas, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Ethel A. Jones Sheeler. Mrs. Sheeler was the medicare director at Holy Cross Hospital retiring in 1973 after 25 years service. She was a very active member of Ashton United Methodist Church where she served on many committees and was a member of the United Methodist Women. Mrs. Sheeler enjoyed writing poetry, sewing and loved birdwatching. Leonard Edgar Tolley Leonard Edgar Tolley, 77, of Monrovia, died December 11, 2003, at Washington Hospital Center, Washington, D.C. He was the husband of Anne Merricks Tolley. Born in Lexington, Va., on December 26, 1925, he was the son of the late Roscoe and Susie Tolley. He served in the Pacific with the U.S. Navy as an aviation mechanic during World War II. He started college at Virginia Tech in 1947 where he met his wife. He married Anne on his birthday, December 26, 1949, and graduated from VPI just days ahead of the birth of his son Tom. The Tolleys second child, Deborah Kay, was born six years later. Mr. Tolley taught agriculture, vocational agriculture and horticulture at Damascus High beginning in 1956. He retired as the community school coordinator in 1979. He was also director of Business of Farming and an advisor to the Damascus High School chapter of the Future Farmers of America; he guided the chapter to numerous state and national awards. Mr. Tolley served with distinction in numerous organizations in Damascus. He became a life member of the Lions Club where he achieved "King Lion." He was a former commander and life member of the Damascus American Legion and served for a time as chaplain of VFW Post 19976. He was active in the Damascus Methodist Church and was a member of multiple organizations such as the Garden Club (charter member), National Teachers Association, Montgomery County Teachers Association, Montgomery County Cotillion Club, Frederick Home Builders Association and many others. After he retired from the Montgomery County school system, Mr. Tolley and his wife became successful real estate developers and home builders. Survivors besides his wife and children include his brother Joe Tolley; his three sisters, Ruby Thomas Tolley of Alexandria, Va., Virginia Moschler and Florence Mohler; his grandchildren, Suzanne Earl, Scott Leonard Earl, Katherine Tolley and Keely Roen; great grandson Jude Thomas Roen and many other relatives and friends. Mr. Beard retired in 1990 after more than 30 years of Federal government service as a nuclear engineer. At the time of his retirement, he served at the U.S. Department of Energy as chief of the Plasma Technologies Branch where he was involved in developing technologies needed to create, heat, and contain fusion plasmas. Following his retirement. Mr. Beard devoted significant time and energy working with Celsion Corporation, an emerging biotech company which uses microwave technologies to treat various medical conditions, including breast, liver, and prostate cancer. He is survived by his wife Judy and his children and their spouses, J. Alan Beard and Cheryl, Peter Beard and Jamie, Mary Ann Beard, and John Virts II and Molly. Surviving in addition to his wife and mother are daughter Lauren S. Watson of Sykesville, brothers Robert L. Watson, II of Ellicott City and John Watson of Warner-Robins, Georgia, sisters Lynn Belyea of Pasadena and Jackie Wagenfer of Queenstown, Md., mothers and fathers-in-law: Susan and Carmen Oliver of Bethlehem, Pa. and Robert and Janet Hartzell of White Hall, Pa. and grandmother Ethel Lantini of Catonsville. A funeral liturgy was held at 11a.m. on Wednesday at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Eldersburg. The celebrant was Rev. Patrick Tonry, S.M.. Interment will be in Lake View Memorial Park. The family received friends at the Haight Funeral Home & Chapel (6416 Sykesville Rd) Sykesville on Tuesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Agnes Williams Agnes J. "Mom" Dotson Williams, 92, of Westminster, died Wed. December 24, 2003, at York Hospital, York, Pa. She was born December 18, 1911 in Winfield, MD the daughter of the late John W. Dotson, Sr. and the late Mary Louise Gassoway Dotson. She was the wife of the late Marcus Williams. She was a nurse at Springfield State Hospital and a member of Fairview United Methodist Church in Taylorsville. She was the mother of Minnie Louise Williams of York, Audrey Carter of Chicago, Patsy Spencer of York, Richard Dabbs, Sr. of Randallstown, Betty Alexander of York, and Pauline Preston of York. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren She was predeceased by son James E. Dotson-McMillan. Funeral service was held Wednesday, December 31, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. at Burrier-Queen Funeral Directors, P.A., 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield, with the Rev. Dr. Lloyd Marcus of Fairview U.M. Church officiating. Interment is in Fairview U.M. Church Cemetery
