He had been a body shop manager with Forty West Volkswagen for many years. Surviving in addition to his wife are sons Curt S. Collins of Sykesville and Keenan Craig Collins of Dundalk, daughter Dinah Kim Collins, brothers William B. Collins and James M. Collins, both of Venice, Florida, sister Iris Collins of Arkansas and grandson Eric Collins of Sykesville. He was predeceased by his brother, Garland B. Collins. Dunlap Arline Swonger Dunlap, 96, of Mount Airy, died Sunday, September 19, 2004, at Lorien Nursing Center, Mount Airy. Born August 13, 1908, in Michigan, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Emma Spristerbach Swonger. She was the wife of the late William L. Dunlap. She had been a homemaker for most of her life. Surviving are sons Robert L. Dunlap and Donald S. Dunlap, both of Mount Airy and Richard T. Dunlap of Savannah, Georgia, brother Robert Swonger of Gibraltar, Michigan, grandchildren Robert Lee Hilderbrand, Catherine Arline Dunlap, William James Eugene Dunlap, Richard Wallace Dunlap, James William Dunlap, Melissa Gayle Dunlap, and Julie Dunlap and 13 great grandchildren. Cornett, 63, of Woodbine, died on Wednesday, August 22, 2004, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late Lee Roy Cornett, who died on August 23, 2003. Born on November 5, 1940, in Olney, Maryland, she was the daughter of Charles E. and Ethel Coleman Eader of Poolesville. Mrs. Cornett enjoyed piano music; her children and grandchildren and family were the light of her life. She also enjoyed playing games, and always liked to win. She was a member of Faith Tabernacle, Mount Airy. Taylor Dennis Robert Taylor, 46, of Reisterstown, died Saturday, September 25, 2004, at the home of his parents in Randallstown. Born December 16, 1957, in Bethesda, he was the beloved son of William D. and Joan M. Baker Taylor of Randallstown. He worked in the construction and plumbing industry for many years. He enjoyed motorcycles and restoring and riding his 1976 Honda GoldWing motorcycle, war gaming where he participated as a Game Master, swimming, hiking, spending time at the beach, and spending time with family and friends. "Bob" Alfaro, 75, of Mount Airy, formerly of Greenbelt, died Sunday, Oct. 3, 2004, at his home. He was the husband of Sharon Conroy Alfaro, his wife of 40 years. Born February 3, 1929, in New York City, he was the son of the late Blas J. and Ana Josefa Bautista Alfaro. A man of many talents, Mr. Alfaro taught cosmetology for Howard County Public Schools, retiring in 1992 after 17 years. He operated two salons in Laurel, beauty schools in both Laurel and Puerto Rico. He was an author, professional photographer, real estate investor and all around entrepreneur. Mr. Alfaro served in the U.S. Marines and U.S. Army during Korea and in the Naval Air Reserves. He was a member of Gold Star American Legion Post 191 and V.F.W. Post 10076, both in Mount Airy. Lovingly known to many as "Papi," he enjoyed social gatherings, Latin music and cooking for family and friends. Mrs. Keller was a telephone operator for the District of Columbia Police Department before retiring and becoming a homemaker. She enjoyed sewing, crafts and quilting. They had been married for 23 years. He worked as the director of purchasing for the General Conference of Seventh' Day Adventists Church. He had worked there for over 30 years. Hartinger, 70, formerly of Glenwood, died on Tuesday, October 5, 2004, at Brook Grove Nursing Center, Sandy Springs. Born October 3, 1934 in Olean, NY he was the son of the late Joseph and Maria Schuierer Hartinger. He was the husband of Mary Ellen Hartinger (nee Hubble) of Glenwood. He had worked as a Budget Analyst for NASA and was a 1958 graduate of the University of Maryland. He was a member of the St. Louis Catholic Community, Clarksville where he had ushered for many years prior to his illness. He is survived by daughters Susan M. Mary Teresa Saunders Mary Teresa Saunders, 43, of Eldersburg, died Wednesday, October 6, 2004, at Howard County General Hospital, Columbia. Born September 20, 1961, in Maryland, she was the daughter of Charles and Mary Trent O'Donnell of Woodbine. She was the wife of Dean Saunders of Eldersburg. She was a devoted wife and mother. Surviving in addition to her husband and parents are daughter Stephanie Saunders of Eldersburg, son Michael Saunders of Eldersburg, sisters Marie Parise and Tina Strawsburg, both of New Windsor, and Ann Delph of Berkley Springs, WV. Arrangements were made by Haight Funeral Home, Sykesville. Christine Tate Gygi Christine Tate Gygi, 41, of Camano Island, Washington, passed away unexpectedly on October 4, 2004, in St. George, Utah. She was the daughter of Dr. Dale R. Tate and Dixie Voyer Tate Born in Waco, Texas on May 14, 1963, Christine spent her childhood years in Texas, California, Utah and Calgary, Canada. One of the highlights of her adolescence was moving with her family to Guadalajara, Mexico where she lived and attended school for three years. It was there that she developed a lifelong love for Hispanic culture and food. She attended Homer Hanna High School in Brownsville, graduating with honors in 1980. While at Hanna, she was active in track and field, marching band and Army ROTC. She also participated in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (L.D.S.) seminary program, attending early morning classes and helping organize dances and other social events. After high school, Christine embarked on her pursuit of higher learning, enrolling first at Texas Southmost University and later at Texas A&M and Brigham Young Universities. She interrupted her studies in mid-1983 when she met and married her husband Darrell Gygi of Ogden, Utah. She never lost sight of her goal to finish her education, however, and was determined to go back to school after raising a family. Christine and Darrell were married in the L.D.S. Salt Lake Temple and were married for 21 years at the time of her passing. Christine's children became her passion and she was a devoted and loving mother, teacher and friend to each of them. She worked tirelessly to make sure that they were well taken care of; sewing clothes, preparing meals and helping with their homework assignments. She will be remembered as a meticulous and thoughtful mother who never hesitated to give her all in attending to her husband and family. In 2002, Christine went back to school, resuming her college studies at Frederick County Community College. She switched her major to Business and excelled in each of the accounting and economic courses she took. Christine earned a reputation at FCC as an outstanding scholar and made the Dean's list three consecutive semesters. She was invited to work as a teacher's assistant in the accounting department. In 2003 she became a member of the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society. Christine and her family attended the Damascus Ward of the L.D.S. church. Over the past seven years she has held a number of prominent responsibilities in the Church including a counselor and teacher in the Primary organization for children ages 3 to 12. In previous wards where she resided in Olney, Maryland and Bangkok, Thailand, she also worked in the Primary and Young Women's organizations. The young women in the Bangkok, Thailand Branch affectionately referred to her as "Mrs. G." Christine is survived by her husband and their four children, David John (currently serving an L.D.S. mission in Puerto Rico), Stephen Christopher, Cameron Scott and Rachel Lauren Gygi. A memorial service will be held in her honor on Thursday October 14, at 7 p.m. at the L.D.S. Mt. Airy Ward Chapel located at 7255 Ridge Road in Mount Airy. Ramona Lee Iden Ramona Lee Iden (nee Illingworth), 75, of Woodbine, died Monday, October 11, 2004, at Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster. She was born September 22, 1929, in Great Cacapon, West Virginia and was the daughter of the late Victor D. Illingworth and the late Ruth Elizabeth Illingworth (nee Ambrose). She graduated from Berkeley Springs High School in May 1947, the School of Nursing University of Maryland in September 1961, and worked as a Registered Nurse at University Hospital for 30 years. She was a member of Taylorsville U.M. Church in Taylorsville and a Volunteer for the National Kidney Foundation. She was the wife of J.D. Iden married 57 years, the mother of Stephen Keith Iden of Taylorsville and the late Chris Edward Iden and grandmother of David Edward Iden and Jason Daniel Iden both of Taylorsville. He was the husband of Jane A. Anderson Browning, his wife of 42 years. Born July 30, 1943, in Frederick, he was the son of the late Lindsay L. and Mary Viola Ogie Browning. Eddie was a lieutenant in Bethesda with the Montgomery County Fire Department, and retired in 1988 after 25 years of service. He was a life member and past chief of the Mount Airy Volunteer Fire Company, and was also a member of the Mount airy Historical Society. He also worked at the Mount Airy Locker Company for 16 years. Browning was a Baltimore Orioles and Washington Redskins fan. He enjoyed taking pictures, yearly vacation to Florida and Chincoteague, Va., but most of all cookouts at home with his family and friends. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are four daughters Mary Christiansen and husband Bob, Debbie Phelps and husband Donald, Patti Burdette and husband Timmy, and Jean Matthews and husband Brian, all of Mount Airy; 11 grandchildren, Bobby and Scott Christiansen, Crystal Fuller and husband Joe, Chad Wilhelm, Lindsay and TJ Burdette, Kelli, Sean, Jonathan, Joshua and Jacob Matthews; two sisters Jeanette Hood of Hagerstown and Peggy Bellison of Damascus; two sisters-in-laws Dot Browning of Mount Airy and Betty Fredlund and husband Dick of Florida; mother-in-law Ethel Anderson of Florida; brother-in-law Jim Anderson of Virginia; two very special aunts Aunt Rie and Aunt Collie; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Charles "Chuck" Henry Grothe Charles "Chuck" Henry Grothe, 66, of Sykesville died Oct. 13, 2004, in his home. He was the husband of Nancy Jean Schaefer Grothe. He was born July 11, 1938, in Boring, the son of the late Elijah and Emma Steger Grothe. Grothe was an avid sports fan and enjoyed Sunday antique shopping. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1956 to 1960, worked for the Social Security Administration for 26 years, and after retiring he worked another 18 years as a postal contractor for the federal government. Surviving beside his wife are son Michael Grothe of New Freedom, Pa., grandson Timothy Lee of Pittsburgh, Pa., granddaughter Katherine Reif of Harrisburg, Pa., and several other brothers and sisters. Funeral services were held Oct. 16 at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home and Crematory in Winfield. Interment was held in Lake View Memorial Park, Sykesville. Katherine Pamela Sadler Katherine Pamela Sadler (nee Hornick), 86, of Kingsville, died Oct. 14, 2004, at Maryland General Hospital in Baltimore. Born July 5, 1918, in Roland Park, she was the daughter of the late Morris T. Hornick and the late Vola Hornick (nee Robust). She was a retired real estate broker for K.P. Sadler Realtor and a member of Fork United Methodist Church. She is survived by sisters-in-law Mary Hornick and Connie Hornick and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral service were held on Oct. 19, at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory in Winfield. The Pastor Robert Carter of Fork U.M. Church officiated. Interment was in Meadowridge Memorial Park, Elkridge. The family received friends at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory on Oct. 17. Virginia Baker Virginia Baker, 91, of Mount Airy, died Oct. 16, 2004, at her home. She was the wife of the late Hayward Russell Baker who dies in 1998. Born on Feb. 19, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Harry P. and Bertha Baker. She was a homemaker and a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Mount Airy. She enjoyed playing the piano and organ and making her own floral arrangements. Surviving are two children Thomas R. Baker, Sr., of Mount Airy and Marie Freedman and husband Brook of Lewes, Del.; six grandchildren and nine great- grandchildren. The family received friends on Oct. 20 at Stauffer Funeral Home in Mount Airy. The Rev. Dennis E. Yocum officiated. Interment was held in Pine Grove Cemetery in Mount Airy.
