He was born September 24, 1923, in Bealton, Va., the son of the late W.J. Andes and the late Ora T. Holler Andes. He was the husband of Ruth June Crizer Andes. He worked on family farm till 1950 and then went to work for Westinghouse as a sheet metal worker. He served in the Army during WWII. He was a member of the Mt. Airy American Legion Gold Star Post 191 and a member at Mt. Airy Senior Center. Survivors besides his wife include children, Ronald N. and Sherry Andes of Ellicott City, Linda A. Rose and husband Michael of Clarksville, David S. Andes of Woodbine and Deborah K. Andes of Woodbine; sibilings Maphis and Lawrence Andes, Evelyn Jett, Ethel Grove, June Crizer and Fern Banks; and grandchildren, Ryan and Justin Andes, Matthew, Amy and Jessica Rose. Ellen Bitzel Ellen Ware Noyes Bitzel, 79, of Gamber, died Wednesday, January 19, 2005, at her home. Born January 21, 1925, in North Branch, Md., she was the daughter of the late James Benjamin and Margaret Ellen Ware Noyes Sr. She was the wife of the late Arthur Gilbert Bitzel. She was a graduate of Sykesville High School. She was a nursing assistant and had retired from Springfield Hospital Center. She had been very active in the local PTAs when her daughters were in school. Baptised at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in 1925, she was the longest standing member. She had been past president of the Women's Guild. She was the former treasurer of Friends of Holy Trinity Cemetery. She was a longtime volunteer and friend of the Gamber Fire Department. She enjoyed many years of horsemanship with the Percheron Horse Association of America, The Carrollton Hounds and the Maryland Draft Horse and Mule Association. Surviving are daughters and son-in-law Sue Ellen Bitzel Fritz and Ronald E. Fritz of Portsmouth, Va., Margaret Ann "Meg" Bitzel Smith of New Windsor and Elizabeth Ware Bitzel of Louisville; brother James B. Noyes of Marriottsville; grandchildren Randolph P. Benjamin Bohrer Benjamin Franklin Bohrer, 88, of Long Corner, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Theresa N. Bohrer, his wife of 57 years. Born on March 18, 1916, in Woodville, he was the son of the late Benjamin Franklin Sr. and Anna Pearl Harry Bohrer. He was a member of Howard Chapel Ridgeville United Methodist Church. He was a World War II veteran serving from 1941-1946. He was the co-owner and operator of Bohrer Motors Inc. which he owned with his brother Harry from 1947 to 1979. In 1958 he moved from Mount Airy to Rock Nest Farm in Long Corner where he pursued his love of farming and gardening for the next 46 years. In his younger years, he was a member of the Mount Airy Volunteer Fire Company. He was also a member of the Prudence Lodge No. 190 AF&AM and a charter member of the Gold Star American Legion Post 191 Mount Airy. Besides his wife, Mr. Bohrer is survived by his children Patricia Lynn Schmidt and her husband Roland of Mount Airy and Pamela Bohrer Brown and her husband Bill of Baltimore; grandchildren James R. Thren III and wife Cathy, Michelle Easterday and her husband David and Stacy Murphy and her husband Mike, all of Mount Airy and Amanda and Nicholas Brown of Baltimore; 8 great-grandchildren; a brother Harry Bohrer and wife Lorraine of Mount Airy, special niece Sandra Bohrer Heydemann and husband Peter of Gaithersburg and sister-in-law Lorraine Neel. Freitag Sr. Arthur Cornelius Freitag Sr., 78, of Westminster, died Tuesday, January 18, 2005, at Howard County General Hospital, Columbia. Born February 6, 1926, in Chicago, he was the son of the late Herman R. and Stephanie C. Roose Freitag. He was the husband of the late Midge Freitag. He had been a truck driver with Safeway Stores, Inc. for many years. He was a Past Master of Wheaton Lodge #223 A.F. & A.M. He was a member of Ruth Chapter O.E.S., Montgomery Forest Tall Cedars, Boumi Temple and the local Teamsters Union. He was a 32 Mason Scottish Rite. Surviving are sons Arthur C. Interment is in Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery, Owings Mills. Gertrude Gulas Gertrude Elizabeth Janczewski Gulas, 76, of Owings Mills, died Monday, January 24, 2005, at home. She was born November 22, 1928, in Hamtramck, Michigan, the daughter of the late Anthony Janczewski and the late Stella Ziolkowski Janczewski. She was the wife of George Gulas. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Gulas lived in Pittsburgh throughout her childhood, young adulthood, and adulthood. The family moved to Lima, Ohio, in 1962 and has lived in the Baltimore Area since 1967. She graduated from Schenely High School, Pittsburgh, Pa.. She was a Brownie Leader in Lima. Survivors besides her husband include her children, Richard and Denise Gulas of New Oxford, Pa., Deborah and Thomas Russo of Naples, Florida, and Robert and Elida Gulas of Westminster; sister Joanne Jurczyszyn and husband Leon; and 7 grandchildren. Hardy Nettie Cleo Hardy, 88, of Sykesville, died Wednesday, January 19, 2005, at Carroll View Assisted Living. Born February 15, 1916 ,in Virginia, she was the daughter of the late William R. and Polly Ann Brewer Thomas. She was the wife of the late Claude Eugene Hardy who died in 2002. She had been an occupational therapist at Springfield Hospital Center for many years. Surviving are daughter and son-in-law Janice and Phil Rensch of Hampstead, grandchildren Tony Gates, Dee Ambrose and Staci Rensch and 3 great grandchildren. Hawkins, 45, of Mount Airy, died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2005, at his home. He was born August 22, 1959, in Olney, Md., the son of Hartsel S. Hawkins and the late Martha N. Hall Hawkins. He was the husband of Sandi L. Earhart Hawkins of Mount Airy. He was a former member of Winfield Volunteer Fire Company. He enjoyed riding his Harley and was a member of the Harley Owners Group-Frederick Chapter. He also enjoyed playing baseball. He coached the Warrior Wrestling and Winfield Baseball. He was a member of Taylorsville-Winfield Lions Club. He was an electrician for N.I.H. He was the father of Shannon N. Hawkins and Darrell (DJ) Hawkins, Jr. Funeral service was held at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A., Winfield on Friday, January 21, 2005, at 5:00 p.m. with the Rev. Theodore R. Miller, Jr. officiating. Interment was private. Contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society. Anna P. McDonald Anna P. McDonald, 96, died Wednesday at Northwest Hospital Center due to complications from COPD. She was born on July 26, 1908, and grew up in the Eldersburg, Sykesville area. Anna traveled much of the country after high school, attending several prominent universities, and even scaled Pikes Peak before returning to her home territory. She was married to William D. McDonald Sr for over 54 years, until his death in 1989. Early in her married life she moved to Randallstown, and was a major supporter of the Children's Aid Society. Shortly after WWII, she founded McDonald's general apparel store, which flourished in the Randallstown for over 15 years. Anna was known for her community involvement, and worked diligently with other community partners to found Baltimore County General Hospital in 1964, now known as Northwest Hospital Center. Over the years she was honored for her dedicated support for this organization, receiving the Outstanding Volunteer Service award in 1967, and the Certificate of Distinguished Citizenship in 1973. Anna served as the secretary to the Board of Trustees at BCGH until her retirement in 1982. Her work as the Director of Volunteers for BCGH was highly recognized. Anna is survived by her children, William "Mac" McDonald of Social Circle, Georgia, Sarah M. Fetterolf. of Eldersburg, and John P McDonald of West Berlin, N.J., along with 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Visitation was held Friday at Haight Funeral Home, Sykesville. There was a service of celebration for Anna's life on Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. at the Wesley Freedom United Methodist Church, with a reception to follow at Fellowship Hall. She was born June 16, 1921 in Beryle, West Virginia, the daughter of the late David Clinton Lough and the late Dorothy C. Lough. She was the wife of the late Floyd Leonard Blizzard. She was a master barber in Eldersburg. She loved animals She was the devoted mother of Mona C. Pickett of Charlestown, West Virginia, David Kenneth Moore, Sr. of Glen Burnie, Floyd R. Droll of Sykesville, Gary L. Blizzard of Lakeland; sister of Dorothy Ault of Keyser, W.Va. and Charles Smith of Rawlings, Md.. Born August 14, 1908, in Illinois, she was the daughter of the late Michael Joseph and Addie Johnson Curtin. She was the wife of the late James D. Butler. Joseph Cook Joseph Eugene Cook, 75 of Winfield, died Monday, January 31, 2005 ,at Carroll Hospital Center Mr. Cook was born October 7, 1929 the 2nd of 10 children. He was the son of the late Edward Luther Cook and Eugenia Chase Cook. He was educated in Carroll County Schools. He lived in Cooksville for a short time. Then he moved to Winfield where he has spent most of his life until a few months when he became a resident at Continuum Care in Sykesville. Over the years Joe had multiple odd jobs including sod work, farming and cement and black topping. His hobbies include; gardening, hunting and working with machinery. He leaves behind his long time friend and companion Ms. Edna Bowman and their two children, Phyllis Elizabeth Cook and Joseph Eugene Cook, Jr. of Winfield. He also will live in memory of four of Ms. Bowman's children, David Bowman, Donnie Bowman, Bobby Bowman and Ruth Bowman; four sisters, Carolyn Norris and Shirley Bracey of Sykesville, Annette King of Winfield and Mary Jones of Baltimore; two brothers, Edward Cook, Jr. and Melvin Cook, both of Sykesville; one granddaughter, Najree Williams; two brothers-in-law; three sisters in-law and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He is predeceased by sister Anna Smith, brothers William and Donald Cook and stepson Douglas Bowman A special recognition goes to Mr. Earl Bowman who on a daily basis visited Joe's home during his illness. Fairbanks Gerald "Jerry" Thomas Fairbanks, 57, of Sykesville, died Friday, January 28, 2005, at his home. Born February 10, 1947, in Maryland, he was the son of the late Oliver T. and Gladys Fairbanks He was the husband of Pat Fairbanks of Sykesville. He was a lifelong Carroll County resident. He retired as a printer with the U.S. Government after more than 30 years of service. Surviving in addition to his wife are daughters and son-in-law Sherry and Mark Stull of Dayton, Md. and Denise Fairbanks of Ellicott City, and grandchildren Samantha, Alexandra and Kendall Stull, all of Dayton, Md. Mikoloski Adrien William Mikoloski, 25, of Sykesville died on Wednesday, January 26, 2005, at Carroll Hospital Center. Born April 28, 1979, in Takoma Park, he was the son of Edward William and Christina Ann Walter Mikoloski of Sykesville. He had attended South Carroll High School. He liked Shakespeare, skiing and music. He was a Civil War buff. He had been interested in underwater welding and forestry fire fighting. Surviving in addition to his parents are brothers, Damien and Julian Mikoloski of Sykesville, sister Tessa Mikoloski of Sykesville; paternal-grandmother Stella G. Mikoloski of Dundalk and aunts and uncles Steve and Lynn Walter, Brian and Pat Walter, Lisa and Doug Sherbert, Ken and Rhonda Mikoloski, John Mikoloski, Bob Mikoloski and Linda Bevins. He had been a truck driver and a volunteer fireman for Winfield & Community Volunteer Fire Department. He was a graduate of South Carroll High School, Class of 1976. He is survived by sons Joshua and Justin Ruch both of Woodbine; sister and brother-in-law Lisa and Bucky Nastri of Screvin, Georgia; aunt and uncle James and Deborah Baugher of Taneytown and nephew Trey Nastri of Screvin. Born April 9, 1928 in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Stanley and Jessie Wisniewski. He was the husband of Norma Lee Allen Wisniewski of Sykesville. He had been a machinest for many years having worked at Bethlehem Steel at Sparrows Point, Seagram's at Relay, Montebello Liquors and Proctor & Gamble. He was a former owner of Dot & Dad's Pub (Charles & Saratoga Sts.), Baltimore. He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Community, Eldersburg. He had been a private pilot for many years and was a proud member of the QBs (Quiet Birdmen). Surviving in addition to his wife are son Joseph Wisniewski of Eldersburg, son and daughter-in-law David and Diane Wisniewski of Westminster and daughters and sons-in-law Janice Wisniewski and Ron Orem of Owings Mills, Patricia and Kenneth Clarke of Taylorsville and Dot and William Burney of Jacksonville, Florida; sister Adelle Bowers of Elkridge, grandchildren Shannon Clarke, Michael Wisniewski, Christina Walker, David Wisniewski, Jr., Matthew Clarke and Joshua, Hannah and Scot, Darrell and Ryan Burney; and three great-grandchildren Brooke, Blake and Brooke.
