She was in the 82nd year of her age, and named after Miss Polly Sterrett, her aunt, who was a noted beauty. Miss Gist was a lady of fine literary ability and had lived all her live in the house where she died. She was of illustrious ancestry. Her father was Independence Gist, oldest son of Gen. Mordeia Gist, and her mother, Rachel Gist, daughter of Col. Joshua Gist, distinguished Maryland officers in the army of the Revolution. She was also a niece of the late Col. Joshua Gist, one of the most prominent citizens of Carroll county, who died a few years ago, aged nearly 90 years, and of Miss Ann Gist, a daughter of Col. Joshua Gist, of Revolutionary fame, who is now living at the age of 99 years at the Gist homestead. Her funeral will take place tomorrow, interment in the family graveyard at the old homestead.
