Wills - Carroll County, MD, Barbara Lippy - Book 3, Page 169, November 3, 1862. In the name of God Amen. I Barbara Lippy of Carroll County, State of Maryland being old and in ill health, but of sound mind and memory, hereby revoking and making void all former wills made by me at any time heretofore made: And first of all I commit my soul into the hands of God who gave it, and my body to the earth from whence it was taken; And as to such worldly goods or posessions [sic] as it hath pleased God to intrust me with, I dispose of them as follows: And whereas all my earthly posessions [sic] consist of promissory notes, excepting some few articles hereinafter mentioned, from my son Peter Masonheimer due me bearing date April 1st 1862 and will come due as shall hereinafter mentioned, First I give and bequeath to my daughter Anna Barbara Stitt wife of Alexander Stitt, now residing in Pittsburg, Pa., two promissory notes of one hundred dollars each on becoming due on the 1st of April 1865 and the other 1866. And to my daughter Anna Mary Elizabeth Bish wife of Levi Bish I give and bequeath one note of one hundred dollars said note becoming due on the first of April 1869. And to my son John Henry Masonheimer or his children if any, I give a note of two hundred dollars becoming due April 1st 1870, but should the party who is supposed to reside in Louisville, Kentucky not appear either in person or agency within one year after my decease the said note is then to fall into the hands of my son Peter Masonheimer for his own use and benefit. And to my son Daniel Masenheimer’s children I give and bequeath a note of two hundred dollars becoming due April 1st 1872 to be equally divided between all his children. And to my son Joseph Lippy’s children I give and bequeath a note of two hundred dollars becoming due April 1st 1874. And one note of one hundred dollars to my son in law Levi Bish and also two other notes of one hundred dollars each becoming due on the first of April 1867 and 1868 oversigned by me to my daughter Anna Mary Elizabeth Bish wife of Levi Bish. I order that the said notes be paid to the parties holding said notes by the party against whom said notes are held as soon as they become due. And to my son Peter Masonheimer and my son in law Levi Bish I give and bequeath a note of one hundred dollars becoming due April 1st 1863, and also the interest of 1300 dollars for one year, but out of said amount they are to pay certain bills that I owe to Jesse Rissnider, John S. Murry, Samuel Gondorff, and Lewis Myers of Daniel, the balance to be equally divided between the two. And one note of sixty dollars whereon ten dollars are now paid, due on the 1st of October 1862, the balance of said note I give and bequeath to my daughter Anna Mary Elizabeth Bish wife of Levi Bish for paying my doctor bill and funeral expenses. And to my daughter Susannah Bankert wife of Abraham Bankert I give and bequeath the sum of ten dollars, said amount to be paid by my daughter Anna Mary Elizabeth Bish wife of Levi Bish. And further all my clothing, household and kitchen furniture I give and bequeath to my daughter Anna Mary Elizabeth Bish wife of Levi Bish. And further I order that all the expenses that may lawfully arise from settling up my estate be paid by the foregoing parties each party to pay an equal share of the same. And lastly I do hereby make and ordain my son in law Levi Bish Executor of this my last will and testament. In witness of this I Barbara Lippy the testator have set my hand and seal this fourteenth day of July, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty two. Came Levi Bish, the person who exhibited the aforegoing instrument of writing, and in open Court, made oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God, that the same is the true, and whole last Will and Testament of Barbara Lippy, late of Carroll County, deceased: That he received it from the Testatrix for safe keeping: and that he does not know of any other will, or codicil, left by the deceased. Test: Jos. M. Parke, Register Maryland, Carroll County to Wit: On the 3rd day of November 1862, before the Orphan’s Court for Carroll County, came William H. Bish, Benjamin Nicholas Bish and Daniel H. Rudolph, subscribing witnesses to the aforegoing last Will and Testament of Barbara Lippy, late of Carroll County deceased, and in open court, made an oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God, that they did see Barbara Lippy, the Testatrix in said will named, sign and seal said will – setting her mark thereto. That they heard her publish, pronounce and declare the same to be her last will and Testament. That at the time of so doing, she, the said Barbara Lippy, was, to the best of their apprehensions, knowledge and belief, of sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding: and that they subscribed their respective names as witness to said will, at the request of said Testatrix, in her presence, and in the presence of each other.
