These electronic pages may NOT be reproduced in any format for profit or presentation by other organizations. ================================================================== In the name of God Amen Peter Slagle of Carroll County in the State of Maryland, being in perfect health of body and of sound and disposing mind, memory, and understanding, considering the certainty of death: and the uncertainty of the time thereof And being desirous to settle my worldly affairs, and thereby to the better prepared to leave this world when it shall please God to call me hence; do therefore make and publish this my last will and testament; in manner and form following that is to say: First and principally, I commit my Soul unto the hands of Almighty God, and my body to the earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my Executor hereinafter named; and after my debts and funeral charges are paid, I devise and bequeath as follows: Item I devise and bequeath all the rest or residue of my Estate, both real and personal to be Soald buy [sic] my Executor and the money to be collect [sic] then to be equally divided among my children now living or their heirs, who may be living at the time of my decease, Elizabeth Brodebeck; Mary Ann Slagle, Lewis Slagle sopest to be Ded if so his sheare [sic] is to be equally divided between all the rest of my children shear and share alike; but if not dead he sherd com he is to haf his shear as the rest of my children - Henry Slagle; Lydia Slagle, Noah Slagel [,] Julian B. Elen Slagle Item I hereby direct that my Executor shall after my death sell all my real and personal estate whereof I may die seized or possessed of at public sale except one safe, and five chests and Bead close [sic] and dishes that belongs to my two daughters Lydia Slagle & Julian B. Elen Slagle, And I hereby give to my Executor hereinafter named; full power and Authority to sell and convey all or enney [sic] of my real estate as if I myself was living and to collect all the money due to my estate by notes or bonds and for interest thereon, and book accounts and after my debts and funeral charges are paid, I direct him or as sune as the money becomes due then to pay over to my named children, or their heirs who may be living at the time of my decease: to be divided equally between them share and share alike: Likewise I make constitute and appoint Daniel I. Geiman to be sole Executor of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills by me made In witness whereof I have hereunto inscribed my name, and affixed my seal the second day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty seven. Peter Slagle (Seal) Signed, sealed, published and declared by Peter Slagle the above named testator, as and for his last will and testament in the presence of us, who at his request, in his presence, and in the presence of each other, have inscribed our names as witnesses thereto John Crouse Stephen Keys Alfred W. Bish Maryland, Carroll County Towit: On the 12th day of October 1863, before the Orphans' Court for Carroll county, came Daniel I. Geiman, the person who exhibited the aforegoing instrument of writing, and in open Court. Solemnly, sincerely and truly declared and affirmed, that the aforegoing is the true and whole last will and Testament of Peter Slagle, late of Carroll County deceased: That he received it from the Testator for safe keeping; and that he does not know of any other will or codicil left by said deceased. Test: Jos. M. Parke Register Maryland Carroll County Towit: On the 12h day of October 1863, before the Orphans' Court for Carroll County, came John Crouse, Stephen Keys and Alfred W. Bish, the subscribing witnesses to the aforegoing last will and Testament of Peter Slagle, late of Carroll County deceased, and in open Court made oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God, that they did see Peter Slagle, the Testator in said will named, sign and seal said will: That hey heard him publish, pronounce and declare the same to be his last will and Testament: That, at the time of so doing, he, the said Peter Slagle, was, to the best of their apprehensions, knowledge and belief, of sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding; and that they subscribed their respective names, as witnesses to said will, at the request of the said Testator, in his presence, and in the presence of each other.
