Sketches of Cecil County M. E. Churches. Glasgow. The first M. E. church at Glasgow was built in 1832. An old hotel was purchased and converted in to a church, dimensions 20x30 feet, one room and none of the late improvements. Rev. Matthew Sorin dedicated it to the worship of Almighty God, where death was dealt out, the stream of life commenced to flow healing the broken hearted and binding up their wounds. Members, 13. First officers, Israel Stanton, Joseph Roop, Abraham Eves, John D. Owens and A. Reed. The old church was demolished in 1859 and a sand church erected in its stead at a cost of $2,250. Size 40x50 feet, one room with gallery. The house washed down several times before the builders could get it to stand. The bricks were made of sand and lime. Rev. Mr. Hickman, of the Jersey Conference, preached the dedicatory sermon. Joseph Dare, pastor. 30 members. This church stood till 1883 when the present commodious structure was erected in its place in 1884 and dedicated October 5th by Rev. Andrew Manship and Dr. W. L. S. Murray. Size, 40x47; cost, $3,200.
