MD Deed Book 3 p. 354, 355 This Indenture witnesseth that Henry Hollingsworth of Cecil County in the Province of Maryland has for and in Consideration of twenty pds in hand paid by Martin Cartmell of the said County, Tanner, wherewith and whereby s'd Henry doth acknowledge himself Sattisfied and paid hath given granted bargained and Sold unto the said Martin Carmell a certain Tract of Land called Lydias Joynture Beginning at a bounded black oake standing on the east side of the west side of the west branch of Elk River being a bounded Tree of a tract of Land now in the possession of the said Martin Cartmell thence running West three hundred and Seventy perches then North forty five perches then East three hundred and thirty Perches to the said Branch then down the same to the Place of Beginning Containing one hundred acres of Land To have and to hold the said tract of Land togetheer with all and singular the ways woods water and all other appurtenances thereto belonging or any ways appertaining to him to him the said Martin Cartmell and his hairs to the only proper use and behoofe of him the said Martin Cartmell his heires and assigns forever under the yearly Rents and Service due yearly to the chief Lord of the fee thereof and the said Henry doth Covenant to and with the said Martin that he the said Martin his heires and assigns shall and may Peacably have hold occupy enjoy the said one hundred acres of Land and premises freely and clearly acquitted of and from all former grants bargains and Sales made by the said Henry or any otehr person or persons by him or under him or by his procurement shall and will by these presents for ever defend In Witness Whereof the said Henry hath hereunto sett his hand & Seal the 7th day of february 1720/21 [sic] (signed) Henry Hollingsworth Signed sealed and delivered in the presence of Henry Worley (?), Juhn Currier and George Collins. Then comes Henry Hollingsworth and doth acknowledge the within deed to Martin Cartmell accordin to the words within mentioned before William Dare Edward Jackson Recorded this 16th day of June 1721 Additional Comments: The name Cartmell also looks as though it could be Cartwell but the family in later generations use the spelling Cartmell so I am supposing I am looking at an M not a W but it could be a spelling variant.
