Port Deposit Mill
Written: March 8, 1743

Cecil County Land Records Book 6 Folio 341
Indenture March 8, 1743 by and between John Steel of Rock Run in Cecil County, 
Md. John Steel for 30 pounds Maryland currency yearly and every year to be 
paid said Steel. Indenture is for 12 years. John Steel assigns one mill he now 
possesses on Rock Run and mill being condemed by an order of the Court for the 
use of the County which said Alisons ablige themselves, and accomodate 
likewise to indemnifie said John Steel from all such damages as may arise from 
Complaint of said County in default of due attendence on said mill or not 
serving the County according to the intentions and order of the court.
Which mill said Steel obliges himself, his heirs to put in sufficient 
turntable?? repair that is to say to make new troughs to convey the water from 
the dam to the said mill and likewise if the mill stones are worn out or unfit 
for service during the time they enjoy it said Steel is to find new ones 
sufficient time being allowed him to provide them as likewise the dwelling 
house he now lives in and likewise one bake house put into sufficient repair 
for baking as also one pasture field near said mill and liberty to cut and use 
sufficient quantitys of firewood during said tern and in case any damage shall 
happen to said by the ice of the river shall be repaired at the proper expense 
and charge of said Steel sufficient time being allowed for such repairing as 
likewise said Steel is not to rent or sell any of the other houses on the 
place to any other person until he gives the Alisons first offer.
