Whereas Amos Pierson and Ruthanna, his wife, by indenture of mortgage bearing date 26 March 1846 duly esecuted, acknowledged and recorded in GMC #1 Folio 284 of the land records of Cecil Co. aforesaid did for and in consideration of the sum of $1000 current money grant, bargain, and sell unto James Smith his heirs, assigns all that tract of land lying and being in Cecil County, MD adjoining lands of James Trimble and others and particularly mentioned and described by course and distances in the said indenture of mortgage as by reference to the said indenture of mortgage will more fully and at large appear. And whereas the said Amos Pierson departed this life having made his last will and testament in writing and thereby authorized and empowered William McCullough his Exe therein named to sell and dispose of his said real estate the said executor having by virture of said powers sold the tract of land to the said Nathan Steel and the said Amos Pierson, and the said executor having fully paid and satisfied to the said James Smith the said debt of $1000 he is willing to execute this instrument of writing as a full release of the said tract of land. Now this indenture witnesseth that the said James Smith for and in consideration of the premises aforesaid and also in further consideration of the sum of $5.00 paid by Nathan Steel at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof James Smith doth acknowledge hath given, granted, bargained, sold, released, conveyed to the said James Smith by the indenture of mortgage. Together with all and singular building improvements to have and to hold the said tract of land and premises with thier appentenances unto the said Nathan Steel, his heirs and assigns forever and to and for no other use, intent or purpose whatsoever. In testamony whereof James Smith hath hereunto set his hand and seal the day and year first written.
