Steele a well known farmer near Providence sought relief in death. His lifeless body being found hanging from a tree in a grove on the adjoining farm of Walter Armstrong. The body hanging by a plow line. Depressed in spirits the family thought he would soon brighten. Financial circumtances were good. He bought a quantity of laudanum and it is supposed he drank a quantity of it before ending his life. He was 63 and leaves two children Al Steele and Mrs. Zelma Haggerty of Landenburg, Pa. He was a member of the Rock Presbyterian Church and buried in Sharps Cemetery. Additional Comments: 1870 Cecil Co census lists James Steel, butcher b Md age 36, S Ann age 28, Thelma age 4, J. Alexander age 31/2 and Sarah Anderson age 12 as living in Fair Hill.
