Streaker, 18, North East, suffered minor injuries while fighting the blaze. Alexander lived alone in the house, a widower whose wife Essie L. Alexander died in 1974. Cecil Whig September 9, 1889 The dead body of William Harris, aged 21 years was found about two miles from his home in McKinneytown, on Tuesday morning, where it had lain since the preceding day. He had separated from a companion about noon Monday to go hunting. In getting over a fence the gun had come in contact with a knot of the upper rail, causing it to be discharged. The entire load entered just over the left eye and tore off almost the entire top of the head. Death must have been instantaneous. Cecil Whig Saturday, March 25, 1922 James D. Alexander ------James D. Alexander, who served in Company A, Eighth Maryland Volunteers, in the Civil War, losing a leg, amputated near the hip joint, died at the home of his son, Jesse, in lower Elk Neck, on March 12, aged 78 years. He was active until disabled by paralysis some time ago. His wife died two years ago. Three sons, Jesse, David, and James; two daughters, Mrs. Kate Kirkpatrick and Mrs. Laura Lockard, and a brother living in Coatesville, PA., survive him. His funeral was held March 15, with services at Hart's M. E. Church and interment in the adjoining cemetery. He first saw it off Sycamore Point and had to shoot it seven times. He got $5 for the fur. Interment: North East Methodist Cemetery. Obit Cecil Whig Saturday, May 30, 1896 George E. McKenney Ex-sheriff George E. McKenney died at his home 806 West Third Street in Chester, PA, on Thursday morning about three o'clock from throat consumption. Ex-sheriff McKenney was a native of this county, and was born in the Seventh District. In the early part of his life he was an employee of the P. W. & B. Railroad, and in the early seventies had charge of the Principio Station. He married Miss Savannah Winchester, a daughter of the late George Winchester, of Frenchtown, and subsequently located at North East, where he was in the employ of the McCullough Iron Company. For several years he was Constable in the Fifth District and was also Baliff of the town of North East. In 1891 he was nominated and elected Sheriff by the Democrats of Cecil, and located in Elkton for a year after finishing his term. In the spring of 1895 he moved with his family to Frenchtown, from which place the family again removed to Chester, Pa., in March last, where his daughters opened a store. Mr. McKenney had been in bad health for several month and had been bedridden most of the time since his removal to Chester. His widow and nine children survive him, his oldest daughter, Theodosia, being the wife of Charles McKee, of Sparrow's Point, MD,, while Anna, Elizabeth, Eva, and Grace, with sons George, Slater, and John, lived at home; his son Taylor, being employed by Joseph C. Kline near Elkton. Mr. McKenney was a member of the Knights of Phythias and the order of Heptasophs. He was a genial and amiable man and respected as a citizen of probity and character. His remains will be brought to Elkton today on the train arriving at 12:33 p.m., and funeral services will be held at the Elkton M. E. Church at 1 o'clock, with interment in the Elkton Cemetery. Cecil Whig Saturday, June 6, 1896 Laid to Rest The funeral services of ex-sheriff George E. McKenney, of Cecil County, who died at this home in Chester, Pa., on Thursday morning of last week, were held on Saturday afternoon in the Elkton M. E. Church, the remains being brought here on the train due at 12:33 O'clock. The services were conducted by Fellowship Lodge No. 42, Knights of Phthias, of North East, of which the deceased was a member. The organization was represented by fifty-one members under command of Vice Chancellor E. B. Fockler. Elkton Conclave No. 319. Improved Order of Heptasophs, of which the deceased was also a member, attended in a body. The Rev. J. D. Rigg and Rev. Mr. Swindell, of Chester officiated. The Interment was in the Elkton Cemetery.
